ChatGPT is becoming my favorite not-quite-person to talk to.

Seeing how it has (illegally) all my Quaraun books in it’s database, I am able to pose it brainstorming questions for new projects and it USUALLY gives me fairly accurate to the established published lore information.

Usually.

But that day it missed the mark.

I’m working on a new Jiggler book and asked ChatGPT to brainstorm some ideas for what to write. It gave me this:

CHATGPT: “ The Frog Merman, known as The Jiggler, has a rather unique appearance. Could you describe the origin of his captivating green skin, webbed hands, and amphibious tail? To which I said: You made a few errors. The Jiggler more resembles a poison dart frog, then a common green frog. His skin is pale sky blue, with bright electric blue mottling, and vibrant purple markings, and purple hair. He has shimmering, silver flecked eyes of iridescent blue-lavender. He does not have a tail. He has an army of animatronic teddy bears (that started out as Five Nights at Freddy's fanfiction), which BoomFuzzy added to, by giving The Jiggler an additional army of animated gummy bears. The Jiggler is a self published author who hates book critics after a critic on BoobGreeds made fun of his book, and he became a super villain and built his army of robot bears to storm book stores and destroy all books that were not self published. Humans sent BatDude and Pigeon Poop Boy to stop The Jiggler and the Jiggler called on Quaraun, BoomFuzzy, and GhoulSpawn to help him defeat BatDude and Pigeon Poop Boy. The entire novel was a satire spoof of BatMan and The Jiggler is The Joker turned into a frog.

They wear white full bodysuit robes, which have a "classic charlie brown sheet ghost" look; the outfit completely covers their head, face, and hand, and flows to the ground. No part of their body is visible. They are led by an ArchDemon named Cheecka, who is the Diontite Scientist who built Toobe. Cheecka and Toobe both live in White Rock in Maine, not in Peru with the rest of the cultists.

Quaraun, BoomFuzzy, and GhoulSpawn are ALL wizards. They are all three mages. They live together in a house made out of gingerbread, when they are living in the Forest of No Return. They live together in a pink silk tent that Quaraun made, when they are traveling on Quaraun's silk merchant trade route. They live together in a lighthouse called Black Tower when they are living on the cliffs of Noodle Beach in Merman Cove.

Quaraun is a silk merchant and silk weaver in addition to being a mage. Quaraun IS the Elf in these prompts.

Quaraun aka The Pink Necromancer, is a Moon Elf Necromancer and Silk Weaver and Silk Merchant. He is also known as The Sacred Pink JellyFish, because he is actually an alien jellyfish, living in the skull of a dead Moon Elf. He is the most feared and most wanted wizard of all the known universe. Though the main character, he is an evil super villain and not a hero. Though very short at only 5'6", he towers over his pygmy husband, BoomFuzzy. Quaraun is transgender.

Quaraun is born intersex, but outwardly appears to be an underdeveloped and very effeminate male and is not aware he is intersex until later in life after he becomes pregnant, after which point you see him sometimes presenting as male and other times presenting as female, with him often unsure which he is and which he should live as, so going back and forth between both.

Quaraun IS the Elf in these, but he is the ONLY Elf, because Quaraun is the last Elf left alive after the comet strike decimated the planet and caused the new ice age. Quaraun is the ONLY Elf left alive, that is what LAST ELF means. There are no other Elves. Quaraun is a Moon Elf. Quaraun is the last pure blooded Elf. Once in a while a half-Elf is found, but there are no other Elves. Quaraun always wears pink silk dresses. 

Quaraun is described as having a blend of Jellyfish, Frog, and Rabbit features. Quaraun's hair is actually many fine jellyfish tentacles. His "hair" strands act like thousands of additional arms and hand, with him using them instead of his hands to do things, move items, and grasp things (this is how he is able to operate twelve silk weaving looms at the same time, as he does not use his hands while weaving, instead using his hair.) Quaraun's hair grows longer or shorter at will, reducing to around six feet long when hiking, and growing to over twelve feet long when weaving, sleeping, or attacking and enemy. The "hair" strands are venomous, and stinging like a Portuguese Man o' War JellyFish, and he uses them to grab enemies and fling them away from him, or strangle them, or sting them to death. His hair, eyes, and skin are bioluminescent (meaning he glows in the dark). Quaraun's skin has a smooth frog-like sheen and texture. Quaraun has blue frog like webbing between his fingers and toes, and thin goldfish like viel fins on his arms and legs, that look like rough wrinkles when dry, but fan out around him for several feet when he is underwater.

Quaraun is semi-amphibious. He has foot long semi-rabbit-like ears that have full maneuverability, and usually are hung low, down his back, hidden under his hair, but perk up high, straight over his head when he is alerts, frightened, or listening. Quaraun can hear EVERYTHING going on in every room around him, and for other buildings down the road. His hearing is exceptional, due to his sensitive rabbit-like ears, and he can hear small sounds and hushed whispers from several miles away. Like a rabbit, Quaraun bounds or hops around, when he walks, if he walks, which he often doesn't. Usually he "hovers" with his feet several inches off the ground, instead using his "hair" like legs to walk, with his hair supporting him off the ground. Quaraun's personality is very feral, very animal-like, far more jellyfish personality then humanoid, with him having almost zero ability to blend in with humans, due his personality being so starkly not human at all. Quaraun's actions and movements are often described as "rabbit-like" with him constantly being nervous and twitching and always being quick to hop away at the slightest sound.

Quaraun turned to Necromancy in his pursuit of resurrecting BoomFuzzy, eventually succeeding and bringing BoomFuzzy back as a Lich. Now the Unseelie Court Lich King of Fire Mountain, BoomFuzzy once again brings terror to the land, but je is no longer the most feared or most powerful mage. Quaraun, is now the world's most powerful Necromancer, and considered to be the world's most evil mastermind super villain, he is also a quiet, elderly Elf who rarely speaks, is rarely encountered, and most people live in mortal terror of him even though most people will never encounter him. Quaraun and his undead Lich King husband BoomFuzzy keep to themselves and rarely go out in public, but the more elusive they are, the wilder the rumors become about them.

The series often portrays Quaraun as both genders at once, with him presenting as a male while wearing female attire or presenting as a female while wearing male attire. Regardless he always wears pink. Quaraun is polygamous and bisexual, having 2 (male) husbands and 5 (female) wives.

Elves are not typically as long lived as Quaraun. Most Elves live 400 to 700 years, not thousands of years like Quaraun has. Quaraun is believed to be immortal, due to his have soul bound himself to a Lich (BoomFuzzy) and his body has become the phylactery of the Lich. Lich's being immortal, has caused Quaraun to also be immortal. This is because the soul binding ritual involved Quaraun cutting his soul in half and putting half of it in oomFuzzy's body, and likewise cutting BoomFuzzy's soul in half and putting half of it in his own body. This is why Quaraun and BoomFuzzy are able to communicate to each other via hivemind like thoughts, and why they can each feel the pain the other feels, they also share emotions.

Soul binding is illegal because if one of the pair dies, the one still living goes insane from half half of their soul buried with the body of the dead partner.

Quaraun was soul bound to BoomFuzzy before BoomFuzzy died, and was going mad with grief because he was in possession of a half dead soul, which was a pivotal factor in his resurrecting BoomFuzzy as a Lich, partly to release his own suffering from the broken soul bond.

Being soul bound to a Lich gave Quaraun Lich like properties himself, including immortality. Quaraun had died several times and his life always resets back to some point before his death. It is suspected that it is impossibly for him to ever die. This is why he is so many thousands of years old.

Quaraun is exceptionally eccentric, extremely arrogate, often tells people that he is the most beautiful being to ever exist, a fact that he fully believes and that few disagree with, and most people address him as "Quaraun The Insane" which he hates and will chide them about.

He orders Green Fairy Wine aka Absinthe with every meal, and often drinks poppy tea and smoke a hash-hish hookah.

Quaraun is often seeking refuge from pursuit. His curious nature often results in him sticking his nose in places it don't belong. In the Godforsaken City, he has a habit of becoming upset whenever barmaids and prostitutes get abused and treated by men in the city. It is not uncommon for him to take these young women away from the men who are harassing them, but then as Quaraun himself is weak, elderly, and frail, has crippled hands and a lame leg, he often gets beaten up by the men who are angry at Quaraun helping the women escape. This is a frequent reason why Quaraun gets chased in The Godforsaken City. He likes giving expensive gifts to young girls, as they are quick to swoon over him, a thing that he thinks is quite funny.

Though he was born in Quebec, Quaraun was raised in Iran/Persia and identifies as a Persian Gypsy.

His outfits are flamboyant on extremes due to laws requiring mages to wear bright colours and elaborate outfits to act as a warning to people that this is a mage and mages are dangerous. No other mage wears pink, as each mage is required to register the colour of their outfits to allow for easy identification by law enforcement, and mages must carry their legal documents and papers with them.

in Quaraun's world magic and mages are heavily regulated by lots of red tape bureaucracy laws (think of it being like how the Vogons are in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, that kind of mega strict red tape laws) and one of the laws regulates who can wear what. Common folks, are not allowed to wear flamboyant outfits or bright colours. Mages on the other hand are required to wear flamboyant outfits and bright colours. There are hefty penalties for being a mage and NOT dressing this way , but also there are hefty penalties for dressing this way when NOT a mage.

The law was created on the basis of the fact that mages, wizards, and just magic in general are very dangerous. The flamboyant, bright coloured outfits act as a "warning signal" to the general public to "beware" or "approach with caution", much in the same way toxic/venomous plants/animals/reptiles/butterflies/etc. are always super bright coloured to announce "stay back, I'm poisonous".

Quaraun has twelve foot long hair made of jellyfish tentacles and they swirl around him as he moves, he uses them like additional hands and feet. Quaraun is an elderly Elven mage, silk weaver, silk merchant and necromancer. Quaraun is attempting to find the soul of his deceased lover, BoomFuzzy. BoomFuzzy is the Lich King of Fire Mountain. Quaraun is searching for any spell which might lead to the discovery of a way to make BoomFuzzy's incorporeal wraith body, a physical flesh body again so they can once again be physical lovers.

Find ways to incorporate his silk weaving career and jellyfish nature into the scene. Be sure to describe various sensory details, sights, sounds, aromas, textures, emotions, as Quaraun is very in touch with his emotions and is a very sensory driven Moon Elf. If you mention things like dust reflecting in streams of moonlight, be sure to remember that as a Moon Elf Quaraun is a very devout worshiper of the Moon Goddess and is prone to stop what he is doing to thank her for his powers, praise her glory, or even in some instance build small altars to her. As Quaraun weaves tapestries, it would not be out of character for him to use the word tapestry frequently. Quaraun, being a silk weaver and silk merchant, and also having jellyfish for hair... is it possible to weave words related to silk, weaving, cloth, fabric, and jellyfish, throughout the narrative to fill the reader with a sense of "this is how a silk weaver talks, thinks, and sees the word around him; he compares everything to silk, weaving, and cloth" and also "this is how a jellyfish thinks squishy, gelloid thoughts about briny things".

Quaraun is something of a germaphobe. He dislikes dirt and dust and mold and mildew and mud and he hates to get wet. He is prone to making big, over the top, cry-baby style fusses over any of these things. A speck of dirt on his dress is enough to send him into a conniption.

Quaraun always taking down, modifying, then tacking back up wanted posters of himself, back up onto the lampposts, fences, sides of buildings, and bulletin boards, where he had gotten them from originally. After taken the posters down, he had corrected the inaccuracies on them, he puts them back up. He is very bold in this, because he is fully confident no one can ever catch him, and he likes playing a game of cat and mouse with bounty hunters who try to bring him in. But he detests being called "Quaraun the Insane" as he has been listed on the wanted posters and corrected them to now read: "Quaraun: The Pink Necromancer, Wizard of the Di'Jinn Order, available for hire." Resulting in the wanted posters being now advertisements for his services. He is just that sort of arrogant. Quaraun is wanted for murder, and for using dark magic specifically to kill several people, including several members of Findaru's Guild, and all the citizens of an entire city. Quaraun is, after all, this world's evil mastermind super villain, even though he is presented as the hero of his own story, he is seen by the people of his world as "the most evil wizard of all time". Pretty much every government on the planet has some sort of a price on Quaraun's head, which is part of why he is alway traveling and can never stay in any one location for very long. So The Justice Mages have a very long list of reasons why he is trying to capture Quaraun.

Quaraun is also cited as "the most powerful wizard the world has ever known" and he possesses God-like abilities and very advanced levels of magic skill, due partly to his being thousands of years old and having spent that entire time studying magic arts. Quaraun is a deeply formidable and much feared sorcerer, within his world.

BoomFuzzy's father was a half-Human, half-Phooka from the Sepik River Valley of Papua New Guiana. BoomFuzzy's mother was a halfAswag, half Human from Mongolia, though her Human side is half-Mongolian and half Japanese. In spite of his mixed race, BoomFuzzy identifies as a Phooka, due to his possessing Phooka shapeshifting abilities. BoomFuzzy resembles an Asian Black man with pointed ears, wears grey dreadlocks, speaks with a thick New England Maine Scottish Downeast accent, and is blind from old age. There used to be a writing challenge run by author J.A. Konrath called "52 Stories in 52 Weeks". It lasted only a few years, maybe 3 years? I can't remember. I participated in the official challenge with him and others 3 years in a row, in 2010, 2011, and 2012. He took the website down before the 2013 challenge started, deleted all references to it off of his blog, and unpublished everything he had published during these events, moving on to focus on writing Horror and Mystery novels, eventually becoming a bestselling Murder Mystery novelist with a very long running series of gritty detective novels. For some unknown reason he shuns all mention of the writing challenges he used to hold decades age before he became famous, no one knows why, though many speculate it had something to do with one of his publishing house agents, whom he had a long court battle with around the same time he both shut down the challenges and quit traditional publishing to start self publishing.

I learned about Amazon KDP self publishing through him, his blog, and his "52 Stories in 52 Weeks" writing challenge. The challenge was not the only thing deleted. Sadly, in 2019, well over 5,000 of his blog posts were deleted off of his blog "A Newbie's Guide To Self-Publishing" which he started in 2005, and posted to daily, often 3 or 4 posts a day. He deleted the blog posts, quit blogging, and left the Kboards Forum, along with the mass exodus of hundreds of other big name authors including Hugh Howey, E.L.James, Dean Wesley Smith, and myself, who left Kboards after being harassed by a mass influx of trolls that the forum mods did nothing about.

Me, J.A.Konrath, Hugh Howey, E.L.James, and Dean Wesley Smith were friends for several years from the mid-1990s, through MySpace, and throughout the 200s; at the time, none of us was famous, we were just a little writing group on KBoards that used the "52 Stories in 52 Weeks" challenge as a way to practice writing.

Because of the KBoards attack, Hugh Howey and E.L.James, completely disappeared from online, deleting their blogs and websites, while their lawyers issued restraining orders to the KBoards website mods and most of the members of KBoards forum.

Myself, J.A.Konrath, and Dean Wesley Smith continued posting on our websites and blogs, but Dean put his blog behind a paywall, and Joe mass deleted nearly every article he ever wrote and stopped updating his blog in 2019.

I remain the last of the big name KBoards authors who is still posting regularly online, though I have had to turn off comments and remove all contact information from the internet.

Today J.A.Konrath's blog sits pitifully empty. And there is no mention of the "52 Stories in 52 Weeks" challenge that our group used to participate in every year before any of us wrote a bestseller novel or became household word big name authors.

The basic idea was to take 52 writing prompts, one for each week of the year. Every one in the group wrote a story using the same prompt. We had 7 days to write, edit, format, and create a cover. On the 7th day we all went to Amazon KDP and published what we had written. The next week, do the same thing with a new prompt. By the end of the year each of us had written and published 52 short stories or novellas.

Hugh Howey kept talley of all our sales and incomes and had a website devoted to tracking this, while J.A.Konrath made posts on how to do the formatting and publishing. I created the writing prompts. In 2013, we published an anthology of the 100 best stories we had done those years, and that anthology on Amazon is all that remains. Hugh Howey deleted his website tracking our progress the same week J.A.Konrath deleted his blog posts.
