Bone Dice - The Adventures of Quaraun The Insane - A Pink Necromancer Short Story
BoomFuzzy tossed a handful of carved gemstone skulls onto the table, their grinning faces clacking together.
"Bone dice," he declared. "Each roll carries a fate."
GhoulSpawn leaned in.
"Whose fate are those determining?"
BoomFuzzy grinned.
"Who knows? Let’s play."
Quaraun sighed, arranging his silks.
"You gamble with death."
"Aye, Love. I am death. Lich. Remember?"
The dice tumbled. The tiny skulls whispered. GhoulSpawn frowned. BoomFuzzy’s silvered eyes glittered.
The dice landed.
Silence followed.
"I win," BoomFuzzy said softly.
GhoulSpawn leaned closer and whispered.
“What did you win?”
“Souls.”
“Whose?”
“Who knows? They’re mine now!”

A longer rewrite of Bone Dice - The Adventures of Quaraun The Insane - A Pink Necromancer Short Story
This is an alternate version rewrite of “Bone Dice”
The bone dice tumbled across the ivory table, their carved gemstone skulls clicking together with a sharp, unnatural sound.
Hollow eye sockets glinted beneath the dim light of the whale oil lanterns, and a thin curl of mist slithered from the cracks between them as they settled.
The skulls grinned - too wide, too knowing.
Outside, the howling storm battered the stone walls of the lighthouse, the crash of waves against the jagged rocks below echoing like distant war drums.
BoomFuzzy leaned back in his chair, the glow of the lanterns glinting off his gold-plated teeth. His silver goggles reflected the faint shimmer of the bone dice as he smiled, sharp and predatory. The heavy purple tartan of his kilt draped over his thick thighs, and his long grey dreadlocks swayed as he lazily twirled one around his finger. His silvered eyes glowed faintly beneath the dark lenses.
"Bone dice," BoomFuzzy said. His deep Scottish brogue curled through the dim room like smoke. "Each roll carries a fate."
GhoulSpawn leaned forward, his golden fleece bristling slightly. His huge curling horns cast crooked shadows against the dark stone walls. His cloven hooves scraped faintly against the floor as he shifted his weight, ears twitching.
"Whose fate?" GhoulSpawn asked, his voice low and wary.
BoomFuzzy's grin widened.
"Who knows?" He rolled the dice between his thick fingers. "Let's play."
Quaraun sat nearby, nestled on a mound of pink velvet cushions, swathed in layers of shimmering pink silks embroidered with heavy gold thread. His long, silvery jellyfish-tentacle hair slithered lazily across the floor, coiling and uncoiling in slow, sinuous movements. His delicate, pearly white hands, encased in gold-plated cyber-gloves, rested on his lap.
A crystal goblet of honeyed rosewater sat untouched on a low table beside him. His pale pink pupils narrowed as he watched BoomFuzzy with a detached, quiet intensity.
"You gamble with death," Quaraun said softly. His voice was smooth, cold as the ice gathering on the windowpanes.
"Aye, Love," BoomFuzzy purred. "I am death. Lich. Remember?"
The dice tumbled across the table.
The skulls whispered as they rolled, a dry, hollow sound like brittle bones clicking together.
GhoulSpawn's ears twitched violently.
Quaraun's long rabbitty ears angled toward the sound, the delicate silver chains connecting his ear rings to his nose ring tinkling faintly.
The dice settled.
Silence followed.
Deadly silence as the cogs that turned the lighthouse beacon pulled to a sudden halt.
BoomFuzzy smiled, slow and dark. His gold-plated teeth glinted beneath the low light.
"I win."
GhoulSpawn leaned closer, his wide golden eyes narrowing beneath his shaggy curls.
"What did you win?" he whispered.
BoomFuzzy's smile sharpened.
"Souls."
GhoulSpawn's fleece bristled. His golden horns scraped against the wall as he shifted uncomfortably.
"Whose?"
BoomFuzzy's silvered eyes gleamed behind his goggles.
"Who knows?" His smile deepened. "They're mine now."
GhoulSpawn's golden fleece stiffened. He sat upright, hooves scraping against the floor.
"Wait, what souls?"
BoomFuzzy's gaze drifted toward the fogged window. A dark, fractured shape hovered in the mist beyond. Sails flapping uselessly in the howling wind, the hull tilting dangerously against the waves.
"The ship," BoomFuzzy said lazily.
GhoulSpawn's ears twitched.
"What ship?"
BoomFuzzy's grin widened.
"The one floundering in the storm."
Quaraun's gaze drifted toward the window. His pink pupils glowed faintly in the dark.
The lighthouse stood silent.
The heavy brass gears that powered the beacon lay still.
No light cut through the storm.
No guidance marked the treacherous rocks below.
"You extinguished the light?" Quaraun said, his voice low and even.
"Aye," BoomFuzzy said, stretching lazily. His joints cracked. His gold-plated teeth flashed. "No light means no safe passage."
"And the storm?" Quaraun's soft voice carried no emotion, no trace of surprise.
BoomFuzzy chuckled darkly.
"Called it meself. Took a bit o' effort, but well worth it."
GhoulSpawn sat bolt upright.
"You're going to sink them?"
BoomFuzzy's grin was nothing but teeth.
"Already done, Lad. They'll be splinters on the rocks within the hour."
GhoulSpawn's hooves clacked anxiously on the floor.
"There are people on that ship!"
"Aye," BoomFuzzy said, unconcerned. He reached for a tarnished goblet of dark wine. "An' their souls are now mine."
Quaraun's long silver hair coiled lazily around his feet, venomous tips trailing across the polished floor. His delicate hands adjusted the heavy gold embroidery of his silks. His pale pink pupils gleamed.
"And the ship?" Quaraun asked.
"Debris," BoomFuzzy said cheerfully. "Will wash up by mornin'."
"And the bodies?"
BoomFuzzy shrugged.
"Feedin' the sea beasts, they are. Nature needs her balance restored."
GhoulSpawn's ears flattened against his head. His golden eyes flashed.
"You're killing them - just to kill them?"
"Aye." BoomFuzzy's smile turned wolfish. "Humans are parasites, Laddie. They leech off the land, off the sea, off each other. Leave 'em unchecked, an' they'll strip the planet bare." He downed the goblet in a single gulp. "We're restorin' balance."
"Balance?"
"Of Nature."
"But Humans are part of Nature."
"I am King Gwallmaiic, King of The UnSeelie Court, and if I say Humans are parasites, then Humans are parasites."
"But you can't just kill them."
"Watch me."
"Quaraun - " GhoulSpawn turned to Quaraun.
Quaraun's pink pupils narrowed.
"The UnSeelie Court protects Nature," he said quietly.
BoomFuzzy inclined his head.
"An' what better way to protect Nature, than to wipe out the disease?"
GhoulSpawn's hooves clacked uncomfortably against the floor.
"But, they're just trying to survive - "
"So is the forest." BoomFuzzy's gaze sharpened. "So are the whales. So are the seabirds. So are the coral reefs. An' Humans? They kill it all, GhoulSpawn. All of it."
Quaraun's long fingers drifted across the armrest of his velvet seat.
"Humans are a plague."
"Aye." BoomFuzzy's silvered eyes gleamed beneath his goggles. "An' plagues are cured."
GhoulSpawn's mouth opened, but Quaraun silenced him with a single sharp look.
"Let them drown," Quaraun said coldly. "He is our king. We do not question him."
"You are his advisor. He stops when you tell him to."
"I have no reason to advice him to stop."
"Why?"
"Humans come in the night, to kill, steal, and destroy. They kill our people. Steal our land. Rape our women. Make slaves of our children. You have not been here long, Glinta. You do not know what Humans are like. How evil they are. They clear cut the forest. Polluted the skies. You know a comet hit our Moon, but you do not know why. Humans tried to play God. That comet passed by us every one hundred and thirty three years, never came close. A religious crazed prophet rose up, calling it a mother-ship. Millions of Humans banded together. They built a machine to draw the comet closer. They thought they could get on it and ride away. Idiots. It hit the Moon, fractured it, and the shards of the Moon, wiped out most of the planet. Comet dust and Moon dust blocked out the sun. Earth froze in a matter of hours. In under a week 90% of every living thing was dead. Plants. Animals. People. All of it. And we of the UnSeelie Court will never allow that happen again. Humans are selfish. Greedy. They care about nothing and no one. You are from the past. You wanted to see the future. This is it. This endless ice and snow, cover the entire planet. Every government was wiped out. All cities destroyed. Your future is snowball Earth brought about by the unchecked insanity of Humans. We will never let the Humans gain that much power again."
Quaraun's eyes gleamed with rage.
GhoulSpawn dare not ask anything more.
A distant crack echoed through the storm - the splintering sound of a mast shattering against the rocks. Screams floated faintly through the roaring waves before the sea swallowed them whole.
BoomFuzzy smiled.
GhoulSpawn shivered.
The dice rattled again as BoomFuzzy swept them back into his palm. The grinning skull faces glinted beneath the dim light as he tossed them once more onto the table. They tumbled, clicked, and whispered.
Another ship appeared in the fog beyond the glass.
BoomFuzzy grinned.
"Fancy another round?"
Quaraun's long ears twitched. His crystal-blue eyes shimmered. He smiled wickedly.
"Let them play. No Humans shall pass my lighthouse tonight."
The dice tumbled.
Once again the lighthouse went dark. The ship struggled against the storm. Its sails flapped uselessly against the ferocious wind.
GhoulSpawn's mouth opened, but Quaraun silenced him with a look.
BoomFuzzy's eyes flashed silver beneath the flickering light. He reached for the dice with a knowing grin.
The tiny skulls clattered across the table, grinning up at them.
The storm howled louder.
The ship listed dangerously to one side.
BoomFuzzy's grin widened.
"I win again," he whispered.

BoomFuzzy is a "classic fantasy type" Necromancer who uses sorcery to raise the dead. Being a Faerie he is also an illusionist and master of trickster magic. By profession, he is a Master Chef, owning the global monopoly on restaurants, taverns, pubs, and food trucks. Until his death, BoomFuzzy was regarded as the world's most powerful wizard. He is now a Lich. BoomFuzzy is also half-Human. His mother was a Mongolian/Chinese Human, which is why he wears distinctively Asian outfits, along with a great kilt worn as a cape. Known as BoomFuzzy the Unicorn, he often takes the form of a purple Unicorn. BoomFuzzy's exact age is unknown, though he was well over two thousand years old at the time of his death, and Quaraun resurrected him as a Lich around 500+ years ago, making him close to 3,000 years old. ![]() Quaraun aka The Pink Necromancer: The F2M transgender Persian Moon Elf main character: The Pink Necromancer, Quaraun The Insane, with BoomFuzzy the Unicorn. F2M for those unaware = Quaraun was biologically born female, but transitioned to live as a male; this is why there are stories where Quaraun is sometimes pregnant, in spite of being male and using he/him male pronouns. Quaraun is a Necromancer by the actual dictionary definition of the word, meaning he is a psychic medium who sees and hears ghosts, and uses tarot, spirit boards, and seances to communicate with the dead. By profession he is a silk weaver/tailor/silk merchant. Quaraun is an Elder God JellyFish who takes the form of an Elf to blend in with society. His 12 foot long hair is made out of venomous, stinging jellyfish tentacles. Quaraun is BoomFuzzy's apprentice and regarded as the world's most powerful still living wizard. Quaraun's exact age is unknown, but he is somewhere around 750 years old. In his SunTa form he is twelve thousand years old. The Scared Pink JellyFish that lives in him, is stated to being over two million years old. Art by Wendy Christine Allen |
