What is the series about?

It's three god-level, planet destroying, alien invader Space Elf, Space Faerie, Space Demon megalomaniac super villain bumbling wizards, and their ship's crew (The UnSeelie Court) with big global domination plans, whom have invaded 40th century Earth, settled in a lighthouse in Maine, started a zombie apocalypse, are hellbent on destroying all Humans and taking over the planet, but are never getting anything done because they are too busy throwing temper tantrums, having hissy fits, and flinging food, sea slugs, insults, and sexual tension at each other, to ever get around to destroying the planet.

It's slice-of-life survival horror in a post-apocalyptic necromantic dictatorship, told through dysfunctional domestic intimacy between soul-stealing villains who rule the world. Welcome to the spiralling madness of Quaraun’s eldritch, sensory-heavy, character-driven, neurotic, dysfunctional, intimate, sugar-dusted Fae-punk world. This is the hostile, dystopian, necromantic, and hyper-sensory domestic horror of Quaraun’s everyday life with BoomFuzzy (and sometimes GhoulSpawn), in a grim world ruled by undead Faerie warlords where society has collapsed and survival is brutal, intimate, and corrupt, and Humans are often on the menu of UnSeelie Court feasts.

- IMAGE 1: The Pink Necromancer, Thullid Infested Moon Elf silk weaver, travelling merchant, & Royal Court Mage of The UnSeelie Court: Quaraun Swanzen on Noodle Beach. With his unhinged temper, his 12 foot long prehensile, venomous jellyfish tentacle hair, his deadly laser wand, and his inability to stay sober long enough to cast a spell properly, he is the most feared being in the known universe. Quaraun is literally a Space JellyFish (A Thullid) whom has taken control of the corpse of a dead Elf.

In the year 2525, a comet struck the Moon. Now, in 40th century Maine, Earth is frozen, the Moon is fractured, and UnDead Lobsters are a serious problem. And then there's Quaraun: The Pink Necromancer. Most feared super villain on Earth. Possibly the galaxy. Maybe ever. But all he wants is tea, silk embroidery, and a calm evening in his lighthouse.

- IMAGE 2: Master Chef Phooka turned Lich King of The UnSeelie Court: King Gwallmaiic aka BoomFuzzy the Unicorn with his 1968 VW Bus Beach Noodle Food Truck. He is king of the entire fucking planet. Defy him and he'll serve you as the main course of the next UnSeelie Court feast. The world's only known Unicorn, in his true form he is a tiny lilac coloured Shetland Pony with a gleaming silver horn. In his Lich form he is a blue crystal skeleton of a Friesian stallion.

BoomFuzzy, the Unicorn Lich King of the UnSeelie Court, is Quaraun's dead husband. Technically dead. Officially terrifying. Unofficially the best baker left in the apocalypse.

- IMAGE 3: The Satyr-like, mad scientist Sheep Demon: Gremorse Liore aka GhoulSpawn with his 1974 AMC Gremlin time machine. He is Quaraun's apprentice, and fast becoming the most powerful wizard in the universe.

GhoulSpawn, their brilliant, baffled companion, fell through time from 1978 and never found the way home. Now he juggles tech repairs, running from zombies, and being madly in love with the two most dangerous men of the apocalypse.

 - Art by Wendy Christine Allen.

- Not seen here: Toobe: a deceptively innocent looking tiny flying silver metal orb that hoovers around GhoulSpawn, giving science reports and scanning for dangers, Toobe is a sadistically insane sentient AI from thirteen thousand years in the future, who is the real brains behind the plot of global domination.

Control or Protection?

The mirror was bleeding again.

Crimson drip.

Salt water.

Seaweed behind the glass.

Tentacles.

Eyes.

More eyes.

Then teeth.

Quaraun blinked.

Still there.

Fuck.

"I hate this fucking mirror, it refuses to stop haunting me."

He reached for the wand. Shaky hands. The gloves whirred, mechanical joints squeaking. BoomFuzzy had not oiled them again.

The bastard.

The love of his life.

The bastard.

The pink silk tent breathed around him. Pink silk swaying in rhythm with the dying heartbeat of the world.

Wind outside.

And moaning.

The herd again.

Rotten voices shuffling through the dunes.

His army.

His mistake.

“You are trying to control me,” Quaraun said.

No greeting.

No prelude.

Just accusation. Like lightning. He pointed the wand. The tip glowed white. His reflection in the mirror split open, bled light.

BoomFuzzy stood by the brazier, bare chest gleaming with sweat and ash. Lilac tail twitching. Copper goggles glowing over blind silver eyes. He didn’t flinch. He never did.

“No,” BoomFuzzy said. “I am tryin’ to protect ya.”

“There is a vast difference between control and protection.”

“Facts,” GhoulSpawn mumbled from the corner, head down in his notebooks. He didn’t even look up.

Quaraun ignored him. His jaw trembled. His heartbeat was the sound of hammers pounding in glass.

“You are treating me like a frail housewife who is not allowed outside.”

“In case ya forgot,” BoomFuzzy snarled, voice low, words thick with accent and smoke. “Ya used to be me frail housewife before ya decided to go crazy necromancer on me arse.”

“I am not crazy.”

“Ya fuckin’ fragile.”

“You take that back!” Quaraun pressed the wand to BoomFuzzy’s nose. Red beam. Smell of ozone. The old fear between them sparked—love, death, and unholy power wrapped in silk and gingerbread.

BoomFuzzy didn’t flinch. He grinned.

“What was ya gonna do, blow me brains out? I’m already dead, ya fuckin’ dimwit. I’m a Lich, remember? Yar the one what turned me into a Lich!”

“You are too controlling!”

“You are too frail to go outside in a fuckin’ zombie apocalypse!”

“I am the Pink Necromancer!” Quaraun’s voice cracked.

"Aye."

The tent quivered.

Quaraun’s jaw trembled. The tent filled with silence, thick, cold, heavy as sea fog. The moaning of the dead outside grew louder.

BoomFuzzy sighed, running a hand through his dreadlocks. He walked to Quaraun, slow and careful, as if approaching something made of glass. His hand hovered over the Pink Necromancer’s shoulder, then rested there with cautious weight.

The Elf's jellyfish hair writhed.

Jellyfish tendrils glowing pink, venom dripping.

“I made the zombie apocalypse!” Quaraun said.

“Facts,” GhoulSpawn said again.

“I CONTROL THE ZOMBIES!” Quaraun screamed. “THEY OBEY ME!”

BoomFuzzy sighed.

“Aye, Love, ya do. But ya also a frail, sickly little waif what’ll get trampled by his own zombie herd.”

“You just need to control me.”

“Protection ain’t control.”

“You are a control freak.”

“No, that’d be you. As can be proven by you turned me into a Lich without finding out if I even wanted to be brought back from the dead."

"You killed yourself."

"Exactly."

"I had to bring you back."

"No you didn't."

"I needed you."

"Then let me protect you."

“Stop telling me what to do!”

“I’m not tellin’ ya what to do, I’m tellin’ ya how to stay fuckin’ alive!” BoomFuzzy snapped. “There’s a herd out there. Ya go walkin’ out and ya end up flattened like a flapjack.”

"I am going out."

"No you are not!" BoomFuzzy grabbed Quaraun's arm and pulled the Elf away from the door. "I’m telling ya how to stay safe. Staying in here is staying safe. There’s a fucking herd of zombies passing through and I ain’t letting ya go traipsing off in it! You can leave the tent when the herd has passed. End of discussion!"

“You do not know what protection means,” Quaraun hissed.

BoomFuzzy laughed.

“And for someone who spends his days tryin’ to be a male, ya don’t know much about the male psychology."

"I do not need to know male psychology!"

"You do if you expect to pass yourself off as male in a world where females are practically existent."

"I exist in this world just fine!"

"Ya live by ya heart, ya emotions. Not ya head. Not logic."

"What has that to do with anything?"

"A male needs to protect his woman.”

“Facts,” GhoulSpawn said again.

Quaraun glared at the Sheep Demon, but said nothing. He was too angry with BoomFuzzy just now to focus on GhoulSpawn.

The tent went silent.

Fire hissed.

Wax candles melted sideways.

The night wind dragged through the pink silk walls of the tent, making them ripple like jellyfish fins under the moonlight. The smell of salt, rot, and anise drifted inside.

Outside, beyond the safety of the necromancer’s wards, the groans of the dead echoed through the frost-bitten trees. The zombie herd was moving along the coast; thousands of corpses shambling through the darkness, following the scent of the living.

Quaraun stood near the tent’s flap, his jeweled cane in one hand, Rainbow Wand in the other. His pink silk sleeves trembled with every gust that rattled the moor. His hair, long, translucent tendrils of pink jellyfish filament, floated around him in anxious currents.

He wanted to step outside.

He wanted to see what he’d made.

"You are trying to control me," Quaraun accused, his voice sharp as the edge of the cold sea.

BoomFuzzy leaned against the food chest, arms folded over his chest. The soft blue gleam of his steampunk goggles reflected the necromancer’s shaking silhouette. His lilac unicorn tail twitched, irritated.

"No," BoomFuzzy replied, voice low, roughened by the crackle of the nearby fire. "I am trying to protect ya."

"There is a vast difference between control and protection."

"Facts," GhoulSpawn said from the corner. He sat cross-legged on a pile of fur pelts, tinkering with Toobe’s hovering silver orb. The AI buzzed softly like a curious insect.

They both ignored him and continued arguing.

BoomFuzzy stepped close, hand heavy on Quaraun’s shoulder. The air between them thickened.

“Ya remember the night the sea tried to take ya?” BoomFuzzy said, taking off his goggles and rubbing at the bridge of his nose. His silver pupils glowed faint in the dark. “Wind near tore the lighthouse apart. I barred the door. Told ya stay inside. What did ya do?”

“I went outside,” Quaraun muttered.

“Aye. And the sea near drowned ya. I dragged ya back, half dead. Ya lungs ain’t never been right since.”

Quaraun stared at the fire. The memories crackled there, faces forming in the flame. Drowned faces. His own. Fuck.

“I do not need saving.”

“Everyone needs savin’ sometimes, Love.” BoomFuzzy’s voice softened, rough silk, old ache. “Even gods what make their own monsters.”

GhoulSpawn’s pen scratched.

“Also facts.”

Outside. The herd moaned.

One corpse slammed against the silk. The wall caved inward. Bone pressed through fabric. Quaraun flinched. BoomFuzzy shoved him back, hand glowing faint lilac. The corpse dissolved. Steam and bone dust.

Quaraun’s wand flickered.

He wanted to kill something.

Himself, maybe.

Or BoomFuzzy.

Or the sky.

“Let me outside.”

“No.”

“I made them.”

“Aye. Which is why ya stay here. Till they pass.”

“I can control them!”

“Ya think ya can.” BoomFuzzy leaned in, breath hot with cloves and sin. “But ya ain’t slept in three days, and ya talkin’ to mirrors bleedin’ seawater.”

Quaraun’s eyes darted to the mirror.

It was dripping again.

Fuck.

Quaraun’s lips tightened, colour draining from his pale face. He remembered the cold, the black waves closing over him, the feel of BoomFuzzy’s arms hauling him through the surf.

"I do not need saving."

"Everyone needs saving sometimes, Love." BoomFuzzy’s voice softened again, the harsh edge melting into fondness. "Even the almighty Pink Necromancer."

GhoulSpawn looked up from the orb, eyes flicking between them.

"Also facts," he said quietly.

Neither noticed him this time either.

“Unicorn…” he whispered. “The mirror is breathing.”

BoomFuzzy looked. Nothing. Just glass. His silver eyes blind but glowing.

“Ain’t nothin’ there, Love.”

“It is there!” Quaraun hissed. “Eyes. Watching. Laughing at me.”

"It just a mirror."

“Facts,” GhoulSpawn said again, voice faint, distant.

“Ya shut up,” BoomFuzzy barked.

The mirror laughed. The sound like bubbles bursting in tar.

Quaraun shoved BoomFuzzy away, cane clattering, wand flaring pink. The floor heaved. Silk tent twisted like intestines. The mirror’s surface opened, mouth of sea.

Hands. Rotting. Reaching.

BoomFuzzy grabbed him. Quaraun screamed. His voice tore through dimensions. The dead outside wailed in answer.

And then silence.

The tent still. The mirror gone.

Just blood on the sand.

BoomFuzzy stood over him. Breathing hard.

“Ya done?”

Quaraun’s voice shook.

“You… always control everything.”

BoomFuzzy crouched, cupped his face.

“Nah. I just ain’t lettin’ ya drown again, JellyElf.”

“Facts,” GhoulSpawn said softly, not looking up.

Quaraun trembled. He wanted to hit him.

Kiss him. Kill him. All at once.

He dropped the wand. Pressed his forehead against BoomFuzzy’s chest.

The Lich’s heart was silent.

Still. Cold. But steady.

“Fuck,” Quaraun whispered. “I hate you.”

“Aye,” BoomFuzzy murmured. “Good. Means ya still alive.”

Quaraun turned away, pushing open the silk flap just enough to glimpse the world beyond. The night was a sea of shifting shadows. Corpses shuffled through the moonlit dunes, silent and endless, faces eaten away, ribs exposed, eyes glowing faintly blue from necromantic flame. They moved like a tide—his tide. His creation. His dominion.

And yet… he was small compared to it. The wind bit through the silk. His body ached. His prosthetic gloves creaked as he clenched them.

BoomFuzzy’s arm came around his waist, pulling him back from the flap.

"Close it, Love," he whispered. "Let ‘em pass. Then we’ll walk the beach in the morning, aye? The wind’ll be calmer then. The corpses gone. I’ll make ya fried seaweed and clam cakes for breakfast."

Quaraun hesitated, his wand dimming to a soft pink glow.

He let the flap fall shut.

The moaning of the dead faded slowly into the distance.

For a long while, no one spoke. The fire crackled. The tent walls rippled in the cold wind.

Finally, GhoulSpawn said:

"So, to sum up, control, protection, and survival instincts in post-apocalyptic relationships. Facts. All facts. see? I wrote 'em all down."

BoomFuzzy threw a biscuit at him.

Quaraun leaned his head against BoomFuzzy’s chest, listening to the faint echo of a heartbeat that no longer existed. His anger ebbed away, leaving only exhaustion and the strange comfort of being held.

"Unicorn," he whispered. "You are insufferable."

"Aye," BoomFuzzy said, kissing the top of his head. "But I’m yer insufferable."

"Facts," GhoulSpawn said again, ducking another biscuit.

Outside, the dead drifted on, following the wind toward the sea.

  • For those unaware, the Quaraun series started out as fanfiction of several things before going on to be it's own thing (most fanfiction things were removed by 1987, and all fanfiction elements removed completely by 2012; from 1996 to 2012 the series was published daily on FanFiction.net, from 2004 to 2010 on MySpace {back when MySpace was a blogging platform}, and from 2005 to 2013 Squidoo).
  • Over the decades it has featured fanfiction from many things, including: It was a combination fanfiction of

  • Primary among them was the character Lythande by Marion Zimmer Bradley, whom Quaraun’s character is based upon.
  • Before there was Quaraun, there was Lythande by Marion Zimmer Bradly… the FIRST intersex, transgender homeless Gypsy mage, part of The Mists of Avalon series, which spans dozens of books throughout the 1970s & 1980s, all featuring an intersex, female to male mage main character .
  • Lythande started out as a series of short stories in magazines in the 1970s, and was later complied into a collection in the 1980s. After Bradley’s death, several unpublished Lythande stories were found and her granddaughter published “The Complete Lythande” which includes everything she wrote, including the previously unpublished stories, which remain unedited and unfinished.
  • After publishing the first Lythande story, Bradley issued a letter to her fans, that Lythande was without copyright and “open world” and invited fans to write more stories for the series. I was one of the fans who answered this.
  • When the Bradley lawsuits and court cases rocked the literary world a few years later, I unpublished everything featuring Lythande and the world, and changed all characters and world to OC ones, republishing them, in what is now The Quaraun series.
  • For those unfamiliar with Lythande it was the first mass market produced book to feature a transgender main character.
  • Lythande at the time of it’s publication was one of the most controversial, most hated, most boycotted, and most banned book of the era — due to it being the first TRADITIONALY PUBLISHED by one of the “Big Four” publishing houses, to feature a TRANSGENDER main character.
  • Lythande is a lesbian female, who lives in a part Medival, part ancient Persia, part modern space traveling CyberTech world dominated by woman hating men -who are mass murdering females at alarming levels in an attempt to rid the world of the evil that is women. Lesbian women are the primary target in this nightmarish dystopian world where the LGBTQAI+ community is being massacred in a dictator decreed genocide. In order to help her fellow lesbians gain their rights and freedoms, Lythande goes undercover as a man to infiltrate The Blue Star Warriors, a group of male mages who control the world’s magic. She becomes the most powerful mage of all time across all dimensions, but when the leader of The Blue Star Warriors discovers she is a woman, he curses her. The curse forces her to live the rest of her life as a man, including, she is no longer able to have sex as a woman, literally turning into a male with a penis whenever she tries to have sex with her female lover; additional she is cursed with immortally and lives for thousands of years, falling in love with hundreds of women, and never able to be with any of them as a woman…
  • unfortunately… like Firefly, the series remains unfinished, because the author died before she finished writing it, so, we never find out how the series would have ended.
  • My Quaraun books, take that exact same premise and run with it on a full blow ‘What if?”
  • — I do highly recommend you read Lythande, if you want to gain a full ‘lore background” on the lore behind my Quaraun series :
