The Quaraun Series:

CONTEXT NOTE: It is the year 3999 — Quaraun is the last Moon Elf, and possibly the last Elf of any type, left on Planet Vesonta, after two apocalypses wiped out the planet.

• The first — a comet hit the moon, fracturing the moon, filling the atmosphere with comet dust and moon dust, blocking out the sun, and shifting the planet’s orbit, causing a “snowball earth” ice age to occur. Where shards of the shattered comet hit the earth, huge Crystal Forests grew up, causing The Crystal Plague, giving rise to magic and mages who use the crystals to power their spells. Only seven million people were known to have survived. Of those seven million, fewer than one thousand were female.
• The second — forced to live as men or be hunted by men, females went into hiding, disguised as men. One such female, a Moon Elf name Quaraun, was outed by a gang of men, who cut off her hands and publicly gang raped by the entire town while her husband was murdered. Enraged she swore vengeance on the entire planet, turning to Necromancy, she resurrected her husband as a Lich, and then used the same spell to summon all dead things: people, animals, plants, trees — — to rise up and wage war on rapists. Ushering in the zombie apocalypse.
• Twenty-one Billion UnDead move in mass herds across the earth, controlled by the Necromancer and the Lich, and hunting down all rapists among the seven million survivors.
• Now with gold plated prosthetic hands, known as The Pink Necromancer and once again living as a man, Quaraun and his now Lich husband, wander the 40th century zombie infested ice age wasteland that is all that remains of earth.
• These are The Adventures of Quaraun the Insane.

Faeries vs Elves (In The Quaraun Series)A Pink Necromancer World Lore Post

A while back a comment was made, which had pointed out that Faeries and Elves are different species and it was therefore not possible for their to be children whom are half-Elf/half-Fae. The rant also rambled about how Elves were taller and stronger then Humans, how Elves were hunters who eat meat, and in short they were raving and ranting that Quaraun could not possibly be an Elf due to him being so short, not being a hunter, easily gotten pregnant by Faeries, and being vegan.

I don’t know what fucked upped lore they were ranting about, because it certainly isn’t real world folklore that’s for sure.

How do I know? Oooohhh. I don’t know. Maybe I’m Scottish and happen to be well versed in the history of the folklore of my people and so I know that for some FIVE THOUSAND odd years of the history of Elf lore:

• Elves are little tiny, itty bitty creatures similar to leprechauns,
• a sub-type of Faeries, part of the Seelie Court,
• and are known for being one of the few types of Faeries who dare get near Humans,
• often easily lured into doing house work and chorse in exchange for bowls of milk, wedges of cheese, and mugs of cream.
• Unlike most most Faeries, who typically run around fully naked, Elves mimic Humans by wearing cloths.
• Slightly taller then Ghillie Dhus, Elves are typically the size of Human children and often mistaken as such.
• Elves are known for their spiteful pixie-like behaviour and their vanity.
• They become easily offended if you offer them clothes as they see this as you saying their own clothes are ugly,
• and they will punish Humans who give them clothes, by souring milk, shaving heads, and tying knots in horse manes.
• Elves believe themselves to be guardians of plants and animals and will not think twice about gnawing the head off a Human who dares hunt animals, kill animals, or eat animals.
• Elf’s primary magic ability is touching dead plants and bringing them back to life.

THAT is the real lore of Elves, passed down for THOUSANDS of years in real world, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.

Soooo… yeah, where they got their fucked up “Elves are tall”, “Elves are hunters”, “Elves eat meat”, and “Elves can’t get pregnant by Faeries”, who the hell knows. It certainly has no basis in real world mythology.

It also wasn’t world lore from my franchise, that, that you know, I WROTE.

And I think that is a bit more important.

World lore is NOT universal, which is what this raving ranter seemed to imply. They seemed to think that if it was “THE LORE” of one franchise, then EVERY franchise must have the same lore. Clearly this is someone who never built a world or spent decades fine tuning the lore of that world.

World lore need ONLY to make sense in the world in question, it does NOT need to make sense in either the real world or someone else’d world.

And, it was because of this comment (which happened many months ago, and I only just happened to be thinking about it today) that it occurred to me, perhaps I should make a page detailing the primary differences between Elves and Faeries, seeing how, if one person was upset by it, there ware bound to be others as well.

So, here we go:

Faeries vs Elves (In The Quaraun Series)

Quaraun is an Elf:

• Faeries and Elves are biologically connected, not separate species.
• Elves are a type of Faerie with more conservative traits and less chaotic magic.
• Faeries are more fluid and unpredictable, but they share many core traits with Elves (including long lives, shape-shifting, and animal features).
• Elves = order and refinement;
• Faeries = chaos and creativity.

Elves Biology

• Elves are biologically a subset of Faeries — they share the same fundamental biology but have distinct physical and cultural differences.
• Elves are usually White or Golden-skinned, with long, pointed ears and hypnotic beauty.
• They are highly agile and dexterous, but more delicate and physically weaker than other races.
• Elves have mutable, shape-shifting biology, allowing them to adjust certain physical traits (such as hair colour, eye colour, and size) through magical or technological means.
• They have a natural connection to nature and advanced magical/technological aptitude, especially in manipulating light and plant-based energy.
• They are vegetarian, though they do eat dairy, cheese, eggs, fish, shellfish, and Humans.
• Their lifespan is exceptionally long, bordering on immortality unless killed by physical injury or certain poisons.
• Animalistic traits like long ears and heightened senses are common, but wings are rare among Elves (unlike Faeries).
• Skin Tone: USUALLY White or Golden, but darker skin tones are known.
• Shape-Shifting: Limited to subtle changes (hair, eyes)
• Emotional Expression: Reserved, stoic
• Animal Traits: Ears and some minor traits, can change them at will, and prefer to embody hypnotic beauty, often using “beauty enhancing” animal traits such as added veil-tail goldfish fins to their wrists and ankles, adding jellyfish tentacles for hair, adding rabbit or cat ears, adding butterfly/moth/dragonfly wings.

SIDE NOTE:

Quaraun is transgender.

• Quaraun is the only pure blooded Elf to survive the apocalypse.
• He is the last Elf.
• Quaraun is a transman because nearly all females of everything died, people can live their entire lives never seeing a female. While male Humans are so desperate to find any female, they will go into extreme frenzied violence if they encounter one, won’t think twice about killing her entire family just to have her.
• A woman in this world who walks freely in public is either incredibly desperate, incredibly stupid, or an incredibly skilled warrior fighter.
• Quaraun is a transman because of so many prior violent attacks on his life and family by Humans who went berserk trying to kidnap the female Elf.
• Due to living as a female in this world, Quaraun’s hands are crippled, crushed, and he wears bionic gloves that allow him to move his fingers.
• Due to living as a female in this world, Quaraun’s leg is lame, a result of armed Human men driving a sword through his leg to pin him to the ground and rape him.
• Due to living as a female in this world, the same day Quaraun’s leg was to pinned him to the ground and he was raped, his beloved daughter Pippa, then only a toddler, was kidnapped. Quaraun was not a travelling merchant at the time.
• Quaraun became both a transman and a travelling merchant to hunt for his kidnapped daughter Pippa. A search he has now donw for three hundred years, convinced she is still alive. The rest of the UnSeelie Court has given up hope of finding her, but travels with Quaraun to protect him during his search.
• Due to living as a female in this world, Quaraun’s husband BoomFuzzy was tortured, left for dead, injured so badly that he killed himself to end his suffering. Quaraun resurrected him as a Lich and took to living as a male Elf, more to protect his family then himself.
• The Black Tower Lighthouse where Quaraun lives when not travelling is The Portland Headlight, now painted black.

Elf Culture

• Elves maintain strict social hierarchies, valuing refinement, order, and tradition.
• They are known for their artistic and cultural achievements, especially in textiles, weaving, basket making, jewellery, stained glass, and pottery.
• Elves are politically and socially conservative, often maintaining centuries-long alliances and rivalries.
• Public displays of emotion are frowned upon; composure and dignity are highly valued.
• Marriage and reproduction are controlled by complex social rules, and arranged marriages are common.
• Most pregnancies are twins, triplets, quadruplets, or quintuplets.
• Single infant births are rare and viewed as a bad omen.
• Elves are deeply spiritual, with a reverence for nature and cosmic balance.
• Their connection to magic/technology is considered sacred, and access to magical knowledge is carefully regulated.

SIDE NOTE:“True Magic” does not exist in this world.

Elves and Faeries have technology that is so far advanced, the Human mind can not comprehend it.

For example, Quaraun’s Rainbow Wand is actually a deadly laser beam weapon, with a set of colour coded settings. Each laser beam is a different colour and has a different function. Humans call it a magic wand.

While BoomFuzzy’s Glimmer Wand is a holographic device that projects holograms.

Mages and Wizards are in fact Techomancer-level Scientists who build “wands”, “orbs”, and “magic items”, that are actually just science tech which Humans have not yet mastered and so Humans incorrectly call what Elves and Faeries do “magic” and “illusions”, when in fact it is not magic at all. Elves and Faeries are seen as “god powdered mages” but that is just the Humans not understanding the super advanced levels of technology which Elves and Faeries have mastered.

Relationships with Other Races

• Elves are wary of Faeries, considering them unpredictable and chaotic.
• Humans are seen as short-lived and crude, but some Elves engage in trade with them for resources.
• Half-Elves (children of Elf and Human or Elf and Faerie or Elf and Demon unions) are rare and often viewed with suspicion.
• Quaraun has many dozens of children, some are half-Faerie fathered by BoomFuzzy others are half-Demon/Satyr fathered by GhoulSpawn
• Despite their aloof nature, Elves sometimes seek alliances with Faeries when facing external threats.
• Magic Aptitude: Light and nature-based magic/tech.
• Social Structure: Hierarchical, formal
• Attitude Toward Oaths: Honour-bound but flexible; spitefully punished if broken

BoomFuzzy is a Faerie

Faeries Biology

• Faeries and Elves share the same core biology, with Faeries being the broader category from which Elves evolved.
• Faeries are typically Black or Brown-skinned and exhibit more mutable, chaotic traits than Elves.
• Like Elves, Faeries have long, pointed ears, hypnotic beauty, and animalistic traits (tails, wings, claws, etc.).
• Shape-shifting is more pronounced among Faeries — they can alter their size, skin tone, and features at will.
• Faeries have a deeper connection to raw magical/technological energy, especially tied to elemental forces.
• Their lifespans are exceptionally long, and they heal quickly from injuries unless harmed by fairy iron, garlic, onions, or specific poisons.
• They are vegetarian, though they do eat dairy, cheese, eggs, fish, and shellfish.
• Faeries will eat Humans as they do not see Humans to be a part of Nature, rather they see Humans to be parasites destroying Nature.
• Faeries are known for glorious levels of cooking prowess,
• BoomFuzzy is the “Gordon Ramsay” of this world, regarded as the world’s greatest master chef. He is known to make his flour from Human bones.
• Wings are common among Faeries, with some being able to fly or hover naturally.
• BoomFuzzy can hover with or without wings, he can summon wings when he wants to fly.
• Skin Tone: Black or Brown, paler skin colours are considerably rare and as a general rule anyone with White or Golden skin is classified as an Elf, because the pale skin colour is generally the only major biological difference between an Elf and a Faerie.
• Shape-Shifting: Highly mutable, full transformations possible;
• BoomFuzzy can look like any (living) thing or anyone; he prefers to take a Unicorn form.
• Animal Traits: Ears, tails, wings, claws, etc., can change them at will, and prefer embody whatever will most terrifying the nearest Humans;
• BoomFuzzy retains a long fluffy purple tail, which he seductively uses to flirt with Quaraun.

Fae Culture

• Faerie society is chaotic and fluid, with an emphasis on freedom, creativity, and mischief.
• They are organized into the Seelie and UnSeelie Courts, which define their political and social structures:
• Seelie Court — Associated with order, beauty, and diplomacy (but still capable of cruelty).
• UnSeelie Court — Associated with chaos, darkness, and mischief (but not necessarily malevolent).
• BoomFuzzy is the nickname of King Gwallmaiic Elf Eater of Pepper Valley Lich Lord of Fire Mountain, King of The UnSeelie Court.
• Oaths and contracts are sacred among Faeries; breaking one carries severe magical consequences.
• Faeries value art, music, and dance but often use them as tools for manipulation and political intrigue.
• Trickery and double meanings are part of Faerie communication, making it difficult for outsiders to navigate their politics.
• Time and reality are fluid for Faeries; they experience existence non-linearly and can influence the passage of time.

SIDE NOTE:

BoomFuzzy speaks a REAL WORLD LANGUAGE. Which happens to be MY NATIVE LANGUAGE. I find it deplorable, vile, and utterly disgusting when Americans write Scottish characters and botch our language up with fuckery that proves they never once encountered a REAL Scottish person in their entire lives and only know our language from the fucking retarded hack and slash that Hollywood tries to pass off as our language.

Relationships with Other Races

• Faeries see Elves as uptight and humourless but respect their magical/technological skill.
• They find Humans amusing and easy to manipulate, but some Faeries form genuine bonds with Humans.
• Relationships between Faeries and Elves are rare but not forbidden; offspring are often seen as dangerous or unpredictable.
• Faeries have little regard for Human concepts of morality, often operating by their own internal logic.
• Magic Aptitude: Elemental and chaotic magic/tech
• BoomFuzzy focuses on Frost “Magic” (via liquid nitrogen tech), controlling the weather (especially summoning blizzards and lightening storms) and uses his Glimmer Stick (holograph wand) to create hologram based illusions to gleefully terrify Humans.
• Social Structure: Chaotic, fluid; but due to the nature of these extreme ice age apocalyptic conditions, most of the “Solitary Fae” have joined The UnSeelie Court and live together in the 500 acre BioDome behind Quaraun’s Black Tower Lighthouse at Noodle Beach.
• Emotional Expression: Open, playful
• Attitude Toward Oaths: Absolute, magically enforced; brutally punished if broken

SIDE NOTE:The world has suffered two massive apocalypses.

Faeries and Elves are space aliens who arrived on Earth after the comet strike of 2525 when the Comet Swift Tuttle hit the moon.

• There are twenty one billion zombies and only seven million survivors world wide.
• The UnSeelie Court caravan, whom Quaraun lives with, has 400 people and is the largest single unit of survivors on the planet.
• The GodForsaken City is the ruins of Chinatown in Boston, just outside the Boston Institute of Modern Art, not far from Central Station, with the Lincoln Tunnel being the lower section black market. It is right on the coast, where Old Ironsides still is docked.
• A few miles away is The Boston Dig Site, which is excavating the ancient buried ruins of Havard, an archeological excavation that Quaraun funds, so he can acquire the textbooks and literature from the ruins of the university.
• This is the year 3999 in a cyberpunk world that is trying to rebuild after the comet strike apocalypse of 2525 and the zombie apocalypse of only a couple decades ago.
• The entire planet Earth is in ruins.
• Survivors are small clumps of a dozen people here, a dozen people there.
• The setting is like Last of Us or The Walking Dead.
• Quaraun’s group, The UnSeelie Court with 400 people is the the world’s largest banded together group of survivors.
• Every city and settlement The UnSeelie Court enters is in awe and terrified of a group this large, as its been decades since anyone outside of the UnSeelie Court has seen that many people at one time.
• The world of Quaraun, BoomFuzzy, and GhoulSpawn is bleak, fractured, and desperate, not populated with thriving marketplaces and nobles. The UnSeelie Court are clearly regal nobility and stand as a stark contrast against everything else in society.
• The survivors are isolated, barely scraping by, and treat the sight of Quaraun’s caravan like the arrival of a travelling empire, which they are.
• In spite of their being non-Humans, Humans flock to the impromptu street markets and carnivals set up by the UnSeelie Court, because the humans are starving and desperate for food, and Faeries are known for their endless food supplies, their excellent cooking skills, and The UnSeelie Court in particular is known for the Elf Eater of Pepper Valley, the Faerie chef whose food skills defy logic.
• The UnSeelie Court caravan is essentially the only functioning society left, and people (Humans) react to it with fear, awe, and desperation.
• Street markets are scavenger-style trades, people (Humans) clinging to life in the ruins, and a heavy sense of post-apocalyptic survival.

So, there you go. Elf and Faerie lore in Quaraun’s world.The End?

What Is This Site?

I'm an author. This is an author home page. It's about me, my life, my books, my hobbies, my home town, and anything else that applies to me and my life. 

Since starting my writing career in 1978, I have written 130+ novels, 2,000+ short stories, 6,000+ non-fiction articles, 30+ non-fiction books, a few dozen stage plays, 12,000+ blog posts, and a few comic book scripts for Disney's Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck.

In fiction works, I specialize in Weird/Bizzaro Tales set in 40th century CyberPunk-Quasi Medieval Dark Fantasy and Science Fiction worlds featuring Elf and Faerie main character.  

Non-fiction is daily updates of events in my life, and how-tos on how I write my novels.
