What is the series about?
It's three god-level planet destroying alien invader Space Elf, Space Faerie, Space Demon wizards, with big global domination plans, whom have invaded 40th century Earth, settled in a lighthouse in Maine, are hellbent on destroying all Humans and taking over the planet, but never getting anything done because they are too busy throwing temper tantrums, having hissy fits, and flinging food, sea slugs, insults, and sexual tension at each other to get around to destroying the planet.
It's slice-of-life survival horror in a post-apocalyptic necromantic dictatorship, told through dysfunctional domestic intimacy between soul-stealing villains who rule the world. Welcome to the spiralling madness of Quaraun’s eldritch, sensory-heavy, character-driven, neurotic, dysfunctional, intimate, sugar-dusted Fae-punk world. This is the hostile, dystopian, necromantic, and hyper-sensory domestic horror of Quaraun’s everyday life with BoomFuzzy (and sometimes GhoulSpawn), in a grim world ruled by undead Faerie warlords where society has collapsed and survival is brutal, intimate, and corrupt, and Humans are often on the menu of UnSeelie Court feasts.
Eating the Elephant
{A Pink Necromancer Kishōtenketsu} 🦄🌸
Quaraun sat alone at the corner table, nursing his absinthe and pretending to ignore the Humans’ conversation behind him.
The tavern was dimly lit, with the smell of ale and damp wood filling the air. Their voices were low, but clear enough to catch bits of their strange discussion.
“Eating the elephant,” one of them muttered.
Quaraun’s brow furrowed. He glanced towards them, but before he could study them more closely, the group stood up and left the tavern, their conversation fading into the cold evening mist.
Confused, Quaraun stayed seated, mulling over the strange phrase, wondering what it must mean, while waiting for BoomFuzzy and GhoulSpawn to return.
A few moments later, BoomFuzzy plopped down beside Quaraun, shaking off the rain from his purple tartan cloak.
GhoulSpawn, equally drenched, grumbled something incoherent about wet wool, as he sat across from them.
“What took you two so long?” Quaraun asked.
“Barterin’ with the fishmonger,” BoomFuzzy replied, grinning. “Ye know me and me bargains.”
“Get anything good?”
“Got five crates of fresh scallops. FarDarrig’s loading ’em up on the vardo.”
“Odd thing,” Quaraun said thoughtfully. “While you were outside, I overheard some Humans say something about ‘Eating the elephant.’”
BoomFuzzy blinked.
“Eat an elephant?”
“Is that even possible?”
GhoulSpawn frowned, rubbing his chin.
“I’ve never seen an elephant… Are they edible?”
“I think they are plotting something,” Quaraun whispered. “But why? Bank heist or something. They were talking about moving bars of gold, and not having enough manpower to do it. Then one said ‘Eating the elephant’. And they all left.”
“Do you suppose it’s a secret code?” BoomFuzzy asked.
“Maybe. But then another one said he liked eating elephants one bit at a time and it would help them with the gold bars. Very odd. And where are they finding these elephants? There are no elephants on the menu, so they can not be eating them here.”
The trio sat huddled in the tavern, pondering the strange phrase.
“I thought elephants went extinct with the last of the heatwaves,” BoomFuzzy said, tapping the table. “Ye’d be hard-pressed to find anythin’ that big still wanderin’ about in the present ice age. Last I saw anythin’ close, it was woolly mammoths in Mongolia, when I was a lad.”
Quaraun nodded.
“In Persia, caravans used them. Not mammoths. Elephants. We used to ride them, towering beasts. But that was long before the ice.”
“I’ve never seen one,” GhoulSpawn admitted, scratching his ram horns. “But in Hell, there were mammoth-like HellBeasts — massive things with tusks. Humans used a ouija board to bring me to Earth, maybe some of the tusked Hellbeasts are here now too. Maybe Humans hunt those?”
BoomFuzzy leaned back in his chair, grinning.
“Aye, mammoth huntin’ was somethin’ back in the day. They were a challenge. Ye didn’t eat ’em much, more fur than meat. Tough meat.”
Quaraun raised an eyebrow.
“I never ate them either. Though the Human caravans were fond of ivory — trade was strong. And now… nothing.”
“What if they found some ancient herd?” GhoulSpawn suggested. “Maybe Humans have some trapped somewhere?”
BoomFuzzy laughed, shaking his head.
“A herd of mammoths, or elephants, in this ice age? Ridiculous.”
“And yet,” Quaraun murmured. “They said it. ‘Eating the elephant. One bite at a time.’ There’s something to it.”
The rain outside tapped on the windows as they pondered the mystery.
“I wouldn’t mind seein’ an elephant again,” BoomFuzzy mused, swirling his drink. “They were majestic beasts, if ye could manage to avoid the tusks.”
GhoulSpawn leaned forward, eyes wide.
“But what if they’re more than just elephants? What if they’re mutated? HellBeasts could survive in this ice age… maybe Humans found a way to hunt them.”
Quaraun sighed, resting his chin on his hand.
“Perhaps. But I wonder… what could they be planning with elephants? They were talking about gold bars. Maybe they want elephants to tow the gold?”
BoomFuzzy chuckled, eyes twinkling.
“Whatever it is, I doubt it’s elephant stew.”
“But still…” Quaraun’s voice trailed off. “We should keep an eye out for them.”
