FAQ: What are the most visited pages on this website and how many visits do they get?

Several years ago, I wrote an article on how to write different types of magic uses, or rather how I personally write various types of magic users within the context of my Quaraun books. Today that page is one of my top ten most visited articles. It gets 50 to 500 views/reads/hits/visits per day depending on the time of the years and has had over 200k visits total since it was published.

Amphibious Aliens: Debunking The Atwater Family's Alien Abduction Hoax with more then 30MILLION reads since 2007 and The GoldenEagle: Debunking Stephen King's World's Most Haunted Car Hoax with over tenMILLION reads since 2007 still rank as the two most visited articles on my website, but, neither of those are writing related.

Writing Medieval Servants is my most visited writing related article with over 7MILLION reads.

This website was started in 1996 and has 1 to 3 new articles (all written by me, I am the only writer on this site) published almost daily. In 2017 we crossed ten thousand articles published. As of 2023, EACH article gets MINIMUM 10 to 70 reads PER DAY, with the high traffic articles getting 500+ reads per day.

And since December 2019, my website now gets three hundred thousand to 7 million reads per month - well over ONE HUNDRED MILLION PAGE READS PER YEAR, making it not only the single most trafficked site in the State of Maine, but also one of the most visited websites in ALL OF NEW ENGLAND!

{{{HUGS}}} Thank you to all my readers for making this possible!

Word Counts For Writers: Is 6900 words enough for a novel?

If you have followed my website for any length of time, you are by now aware that I like using Reddit to get my article ideas. I search reddit for questions and then I answer them, here, though not often on Reddit. While I post answers here on my website daily, often 3 or more a day, I only post answers on Reddit once, maybe twice, a week, if that often. I dislike the toxic vibes of Reddit comment sections and so avoid dealing with them, by writing up very long comments and then NOT posting the comment on Reddit, but rather instead posting it here for you. my readers, because I know you guys are not toxic. And so, that is what this page is, yet again, today. I have found a question on reddit and I am going to answer it here instead of answering it o Reddit. Enjoy!

Word Counts For Writers: Is 6900 words enough for a novel?

Today, let's do something a little bit different. Starting last week of July 2023, I have been testing out ChatGPT on my website. Today, let's see what ChatGPT has to say about this Reddit post.

I'm going to start out by answering the post myself, and then afterwards, I am going to paste the question into ChatGPT and see how similar or different AI's answer is from mine.

Word Counts For Writers: Is 6900 words enough for a novel?

Word Counts For Writers: Is 6900 words enough for a novel? What Counts As a Novel?

My answer to  Word Counts For Writers: Is 6900 words enough for a novel?

Well, considering the average short story is 10k words, the average novella is 40k words and the average novel is 120k words... uhm... no.

Anything under 5k words is flash fiction, so what you've written is almost, not quite long enough to be considered a short story.

A printed paperback book averages 330 words per page and the average novel is 400 pages long... your 6.9k words is going to be at most 20 printed pages long.

Please go to a book store and try to find a 20 page long paperback novel... 20 pages isn't even long enough for a children's picture book, which is minimum 32 pages due to the fact printing press machines are incapable of printing a spined book under 32 pages long.

And while we're on the subject of children's picture books, children's picture books average 10k words, so, 6,900 is half the length of a children's picture book.

I'd recommend actually reading a book. A real book. One made out of paper, with printed ink. Nothing teaches you how many words are in a novel like sitting down actually reading a novel.

Now Let's see What chatGPT Has To Say About:
Word Counts For Writers: Is 6900 words enough for a novel?

The Prompt:

Word Counts For Writers: Is 6900 words enough for a novel? How many words does it take to count as a novel?

ChatGPT's answer:

Ah, my dear writer, you've posed a question that many authors ponder as they weave their tales upon the loom of words. The length of a novel can indeed vary, and while there are no rigid rules etched in stone, there are generally accepted guidelines to consider.

In the realm of traditional publishing, a novel is often considered to be a work of fiction that reaches around 40,000 words or more. This length offers sufficient space to develop characters, build a world, and unfold a story with depth and detail. For most genres, especially adult fiction, a novel typically falls between 70,000 and 100,000 words. Fantasy and science fiction novels might lean toward the higher end due to the intricate world-building they often entail.

Now, let's discuss your specific word count of 6,900 words. While this length might not quite reach the typical novel threshold, it does fall within the realm of novella territory. Novellas are shorter works of fiction, often ranging from around 20,000 to 40,000 words. They can still hold tremendous power, delivering a captivating story with a tighter focus.

Ultimately, the effectiveness of a story isn't solely determined by its word count. What truly matters is the quality of the writing, the depth of the characters, and the emotional journey you take your readers on. Some stories are meant to be shorter and more concise, while others demand the sprawling canvas of a full-length novel. What's important is that your story feels complete and satisfying within its chosen length.

As you continue to weave the threads of your literary tapestry, remember that there's no universal answer to the question of word count. Instead, focus on crafting a story that resonates with your readers and fulfills the vision you have for your narrative. Whether your work spans 6,900 words or surpasses 100,000, what truly matters is the magic you infuse into every sentence and the emotions you evoke within your readers' hearts.

The Prompt:

Can you take this paragraph and expand it longer, turn it into a full article of 900 words or more long?

ChatGPT's answer:

Title: Navigating the Vast Horizons of Word Counts in the World of Novel Writing

In the ever-expansive realm of literature, where imagination takes flight and stories come to life, the length of a work often becomes an essential thread in the intricate tapestry of storytelling. While short stories and novellas offer concise glimpses into captivating worlds, novels reign as the majestic titans of literary creation. These grandiose narratives, with their sprawling landscapes and complex characters, open up realms of possibility, allowing authors to weave intricate plots and delve into the depths of human emotion. Among the key markers that define the novel, word count stands as a compass guiding writers through uncharted waters, determining the extent to which tales can be unraveled and destinies unveiled.

Traditionally, a novel has been classified as a work of fiction that extends its narrative tendrils to encompass a landscape of approximately 40,000 words or more. This considerable length serves as a fertile ground for authors to cultivate their literary gardens, sowing the seeds of characters' development, nurturing the growth of immersive worlds, and unfurling the story's intricate layers with a finesse that captures the reader's heart. Within this word count expanse, the symphony of the novel takes shape, as themes harmonize, emotions crescendo, and the reader is led on a transformative journey.

When venturing into the vast labyrinth of literary genres, each corner harbors its own variations in word count expectations, reflecting the diversity of storytelling itself. For many genres, particularly in the realm of adult fiction, novels typically extend their narratives between the confines of 70,000 and 100,000 words. Within this spectrum, authors are granted the canvas to paint vibrant characters, evoke palpable emotions, and construct intricate plots that lead readers through a maze of twists and turns. The journey becomes an odyssey, where each word contributes to the symphony of the narrative, creating a cadence that resonates deeply within the reader's soul.

Yet, as the genres diversify, so do the expectations of word count. Fantasy and science fiction, the domains of dragons and interstellar adventures, often extend their literary landscapes toward the higher end of the spectrum. The tapestry of these genres is woven with threads of elaborate world-building, each detail contributing to the fabric of immersion. The enchanting cities, alien landscapes, and intricate magic systems demand an expansive stage on which to unfold. As such, the word count of these novels may ascend beyond 100,000 words, allowing authors to breathe life into not just characters, but entire civilizations, forging connections between readers and realms that transcend the boundaries of reality.

In this digital age, where e-readers and online platforms offer new avenues of literary consumption, the landscape of word counts is undergoing further evolution. Serialized fiction, once a hallmark of Victorian literature, has made a resurgence, with stories unfolding in bite-sized installments. These episodic narratives grant authors the flexibility to explore longer narratives that can be consumed in smaller, more digestible portions. Readers embark on journeys that unfold over weeks or months, building anticipation and fostering a unique bond with the story's progression.

As we traverse this literary landscape, it becomes evident that word count is not just a numerical measure but a gateway to the multiverse of storytelling. It guides authors in their quest to balance brevity with depth, pacing with emotion, and world-building with reader engagement. Each word is a brushstroke, contributing to the masterpiece that is a novel, and every journey through its pages is an odyssey that offers a glimpse into the author's imagination.

So, whether the tale unfurls within the span of 40,000 words or extends its tendrils across 150,000, the novel remains a testament to the power of words to transport, transform, and transcend. It stands as a beacon, inviting readers to step into realms unknown and experience the symphony of emotions that resound within its pages. As authors, we wield the quill that guides the narrative, letting the word count be the compass that navigates us through the boundless expanse of storytelling possibilities.

The Prompt:

Can you take this paragraph and expand it longer, turn it into a full article of 900 words or more long?

Now, let's discuss your specific word count of 6,900 words. While this length might not quite reach the typical novel threshold, it does fall within the realm of novella territory. Novellas are shorter works of fiction, often ranging from around 20,000 to 40,000 words. They can still hold tremendous power, delivering a captivating story with a tighter focus.

ChatGPT's answer:

Absolutely, my fellow writing enthusiast! Let's delve deeper into the magical world of novellas, exploring the realm of storytelling that spans from 20,000 to 40,000 words. While novellas may not carry the weight of a full-length novel, they possess a unique charm and the ability to captivate readers with their concise yet impactful narratives. In this exploration, we'll unearth the hidden treasures of novellas, uncovering why they hold tremendous power and discussing how to craft a captivating tale within their compact confines.

At the crossroads between short stories and novels, novellas carve out a distinctive space that allows authors to explore intricate storylines and complex characters within a limited word count. This brevity demands a focused approach, where every word carries weight and significance. Unlike sprawling novels that meander through multiple subplots, novellas require a streamlined narrative that hits the heart of the story without veering off course. This emphasis on conciseness forces writers to distill their ideas into a potent concoction that leaves readers both satisfied and craving for more.

The novella's length is akin to a swift river that flows purposefully, unburdened by excess. This brevity doesn't dilute the impact; rather, it amplifies it. A well-crafted novella is like a concentrated elixir of storytelling, delivering intense emotions and thought-provoking themes in a shorter timeframe. Each scene, each line of dialogue, takes on a heightened significance, resonating deeply with the reader. With the luxury of fewer pages, every word can be infused with layers of meaning, every interaction can carry a weighty consequence, and every twist can turn the narrative on its head with precision.

What's enchanting about novellas is their potential to dive straight into the heart of the matter, immersing readers in the core essence of the story without the need for lengthy exposition. This immediacy allows for rapid engagement, drawing readers into the world you've woven while maintaining their attention throughout the journey. The pacing is dynamic and brisk, ensuring that the narrative doesn't lose its momentum.

Now, the question arises: how can one craft a captivating tale within the confines of a novella? The key lies in the synergy between plot and character development. Every character, every subplot, must serve the overarching narrative, like ingredients coming together to create a delectable dish. The characters' growth and arcs are distilled, yet no less profound. The pacing must be meticulously calibrated, transitioning smoothly between moments of introspection and heart-pounding action.

Embracing the theme of culinary coziness that resonates through your work, think of your novella as a carefully curated feast. Each chapter is a dish, skillfully plated and bursting with flavor. The characters are the ingredients, each bringing their unique essence to the table. The plot is the recipe, carefully constructed to satisfy the reader's palate. Every twist and turn is a surprising seasoning that keeps the reader engaged.

Consider your setting as the ambiance, the backdrop against which the tale unfolds. In the case of Quaraun's journeys through the frostpunk wastelands, the stark landscapes serve as both a challenge and an opportunity. The icy tundra can mirror the emotional struggles of the characters, the chilling external environment paralleling their internal conflicts. In this way, every element, like the warmth of a cozy fireplace in a snow-covered cabin, contributes to the overall atmosphere of the novella.

Remember, my fellow writer, that while novellas may be shorter in length, they're not lacking in depth or impact. They are a canvas where you can paint an unforgettable story with bold strokes and intricate details. The journey of writing a novella is akin to preparing a sumptuous meal for your readers—one that tantalizes the senses, leaves them satisfied, and lingers in their memory long after the final page.

In conclusion, the realm of novellas is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. It's a canvas that invites you to weave a tapestry of emotions, themes, and characters within a limited word count. Embrace the challenge, my friend, and let the magic of your storytelling unfold in this captivating form. As you craft your next novella, keep in mind the artistry of culinary coziness, infusing every scene with the richness of flavor and the warmth of connection. May your quill dance across the pages, conjuring a world that lingers in the hearts of your readers, inviting them to savor every moment of the journey.

The Prompt:

Can you take this paragraph and expand it longer, turn it into a full article of 900 words or more long?

Ultimately, the effectiveness of a story isn't solely determined by its word count. What truly matters is the quality of the writing, the depth of the characters, and the emotional journey you take your readers on. Some stories are meant to be shorter and more concise, while others demand the sprawling canvas of a full-length novel. What's important is that your story feels complete and satisfying within its chosen length.

ChatGPT's answer:

**Crafting the Perfect Story: Beyond Word Count**

In the realm of storytelling, the measure of a tale's effectiveness extends far beyond the confines of word count. As the writer's quill dances across the parchment, it is not the numerical value that defines a story's impact but rather the delicate interplay of artistry, character dynamics, and the emotions that thread through its narrative fabric. The notion that longer equates to better or shorter belittles the essence of storytelling itself. The heart of the matter lies not in the quantity of words, but in the craftsmanship that turns each word into a brushstroke, painting a vivid tapestry that resonates with readers.

**The Artistry of Expression: Quality over Quantity**

In the symphony of storytelling, it is the harmony of language, imagery, and rhythm that composes the true masterpiece. A well-crafted sentence possesses the power to linger in the reader's mind, much like a haunting melody. It's not about how many sentences you string together, but how each sentence is carefully honed to evoke emotion, convey meaning, and transport the reader into the heart of the narrative. The economy of language, where every word is carefully chosen, becomes an art in itself—a skill that transcends the confines of word count.

**Characters That Breathe: The Pulse of the Tale**

The characters within a story breathe life into its essence, their existence stretching far beyond the digits on a page. Whether a novella or an epic saga, the depth and complexity of characters form the emotional core of the narrative. A character's growth, flaws, fears, and triumphs are not bound by the length of the story but by the authenticity with which they are portrayed. Whether in a brief encounter or an extended journey, it is the resonance of their struggles and victories that engraves their memory in the reader's heart.

**Journey of Emotions: Beyond the Page**

The emotional journey embarked upon by both characters and readers is a bridge that connects the two worlds—one crafted by the writer and the other imagined by the reader. A concise story has the power to stir emotions just as deeply as a voluminous saga. The key lies in the writer's ability to infuse every word with sentiment, each scene with poignancy, and every turning point with impact. The reader's heart does not measure the length of the narrative but the extent to which it is touched, moved, and awakened by the feelings woven into the words.

**Finding the Right Canvas: Short vs. Long Form**

Just as an artist selects the canvas that best suits their vision, a writer chooses the length that best serves their story. The canvas could be a quick stroke of a brush capturing a moment, or an intricate mural unfurling an epic saga. There is no universal formula dictating which form is superior. The beauty lies in finding the form that allows the story to unfold naturally, where every scene, dialogue, and revelation contributes seamlessly to the overall arc. A short story can be as profound and impactful as a novel, provided its essence is distilled into a concentrated burst of emotion and insight.

**Completeness in Every Word: A Satisfying Experience**

The narrative journey, irrespective of its length, must offer a sense of completeness to the reader. A short story should leave no loose ends untied, no questions unanswered, and no emotions unexplored. Similarly, a novel should encompass a comprehensive exploration of its themes and character arcs, leaving readers satisfied by the depth of their experience. The true measure of success is not in leaving the reader yearning for more pages but in allowing them to close the book with a sigh of fulfillment, knowing they have traversed a meaningful and impactful narrative.

In conclusion, the art of storytelling transcends mere word count, finding its essence in the synergy of eloquent expression, compelling characters, and emotional resonance. Whether brevity or length, it is the craftsmanship that dictates a story's power to captivate and engage. As you wield the pen and weave your tales, remember that a narrative's impact is a testament to the skill with which it is crafted, and its magic is born from the emotions it evokes. The next time you ponder the length of your story, consider not the numbers but the infinite universe of possibilities that lie within each word.

The Prompt:

Can you take this paragraph and expand it longer, turn it into a full article of 900 words or more long?

As you continue to weave the threads of your literary tapestry, remember that there's no universal answer to the question of word count. Instead, focus on crafting a story that resonates with your readers and fulfills the vision you have for your narrative. Whether your work spans 6,900 words or surpasses 100,000, what truly matters is the magic you infuse into every sentence and the emotions you evoke within your readers' hearts.

ChatGPT's answer:

As you embark on the odyssey of weaving the threads of your literary tapestry, you find yourself facing a conundrum that plagues many writers: the elusive question of word count. In the realm of storytelling, the length of a tale often becomes a tantalizing enigma, a puzzle whose pieces vary in number and complexity. But as you navigate this intricate labyrinth, let the guiding principle be that there is no universal answer inscribed in the scrolls of creativity. Instead, the key lies in your ability to craft a narrative that resonates deeply with your readers and fulfills the unique vision you hold for your work of art.

The realm of literature is akin to an artist's canvas, ready to be adorned with strokes of imagination and fragments of soul. A story's length is not merely a numerical figure, but a dimension that influences the immersive experience you offer to your readers. As you sit at the crossroads of decision, contemplating whether your work shall span a concise 6,900 words or venture forth into the vast expanse beyond 100,000, consider that each word is a brushstroke upon this canvas—a brushstroke that bears the weight of your creative essence.

The journey begins with understanding your narrative's heartbeat. Does it beat with a frenetic pace, quickening the reader's pulse as they navigate a high-stakes adventure? Or does it tread gently, allowing the reader to savor the subtleties of emotion and introspection? The rhythm of your tale guides the choice of word count, ensuring that the narrative flow remains harmonious, neither rushed nor languid.

In the realm of shorter works, such as novellas or short stories, brevity becomes a potent ally. The confines of a limited word count demand precision, urging you to craft each sentence with the meticulousness of a jeweler fashioning a rare gem. Every word must contribute to character development, plot progression, and thematic resonance. In this intricate dance, the magic lies in what remains unsaid—the spaces between words that invite readers to explore the tapestry of implication.

Conversely, the epics that sprawl across tomes possess a majesty of their own. These sprawling narratives grant the luxury of expansiveness, allowing subplots to flourish, characters to undergo profound evolution, and worlds to unfold in vivid detail. Yet, even within this vastness, remember that every detail serves a purpose. While the canvas may be larger, the brushstrokes must still be deliberate, creating a symphony of interconnected themes that resonates within the hearts of your readers.

As you mold your narrative, consider the emotional journey you wish to embark upon. A shorter work can deliver a swift and poignant impact, leaving readers contemplative as they turn the final page. Meanwhile, an epic offers the luxury of deeper immersion, inviting readers to form lasting bonds with characters and immerse themselves in multifaceted plotlines. The emotional cadence guides the word count, ensuring that the tale unfolds with the intended resonance.

Ultimately, the measure of a story's success transcends its numerical length. What truly matters is the alchemy you perform with your words—the magic you infuse into each sentence, each paragraph, and each chapter. The emotions you kindle, the thoughts you provoke, and the worlds you conjure define your narrative's potency. Whether your literary endeavor culminates in a concise tale or an expansive epic, the essence of your creativity becomes a beacon that guides readers through the labyrinth of your imagination.

So, as you traverse the landscapes of storytelling, remember that your narrative's word count is but a facet of the grand design. The story's power emanates from your ability to paint emotions upon the canvas of your reader's hearts. Just as a masterpiece transcends its dimensions, your tale shall transcend its word count, leaving an indelible mark upon those who journey through its pages.

If you ever made fun of or had any part in the murder of my son, your child shall die an equally horrible death.

Evil men go out of their way to try to drive a person to suicide.

Are you an evil man?

Are you sure you're not?

How many people have YOUR hate filled words killed?

Next time you go to do a mean thing to a fellow human, stop and really think about the consequences of your actions.

Did you ever notice how every one has a story to tell about me, yet not one of them ever speaks the truth?

What lies has YOUR gossiping tongue spread about me?

Did you know...

October 16, 2006, bomb blew up my house because of YOUR lies.

August 8, 2013, the house which replaced the one the bomb blew up, was driven over by a backhoe.

November 14, 2013, my 8 month old infant son was murdered because of your lies.

November 14, 2013, I was beaten up, paralized for 5 months, spent 18 weeks relearning to walk, I'm now crippled for the rest of my life, because of YOUR lies.

Are you proud of what you have done?

Enjoy your eternity in Hell. You earned it. You've certainly worked hard for it.
