If you have followed my website for any length of time, you are by now aware that I like using Reddit to get my article ideas. I search reddit for questions and then I answer them, here, though not often on Reddit. While I post answers here on my website daily, often 3 or more a day, I only post answers on Reddit once, maybe twice, a week, if that often. I dislike the toxic vibes of Reddit comment sections and so avoid dealing with them, by writing up very long comments and then NOT posting the comment on Reddit, but rather instead posting it here for you. my readers, because I know you guys are not toxic. And so, that is what this page is, yet again, today. I have found a question on reddit and I am going to answer it here instead of answering it o Reddit. Enjoy!

My world is the real Earth in the 40th century. Between our current real world era and the 40th century far future there have been two global apocalypses and several regional apocalypses, plus numerous pandemics and epidemics, as well as three new World Wars, and a massive change to all governments. Basically no country in power in our real world current era, is still in existence in the 40th century- America is gone, Europe is gone, etc, the landmass is still there but the governments are gone and the cities, like NYC and Tokyo, are ruins buried under hundreds of feet of soil, with huge old growth forests growing over them.
In the story plot line era, a global ice age has hit the planet. This was caused by a comet hitting the moon. Comet dust and moon dust now obit Earth's atmosphere, creating a thick “dust cloud” that envelopes the Earth and blocks out the sun. With the world sunk into perpetual darkness the surface temperature dropped, and Earth became a planet buried in many feet of snow. This in turn caused most plants, animals, and human life to die shortly after the comet strike.
Survivors adapted to the harsh conditions.

And twenty thousand years is enough time that life evolved.
Magic is rare, but magic rose up as side effect of life evolving to adapt to the changes of Earth's environment.
No one knows exactly what magic is or exactly how it works or why. Most are terrified of magic and see it as a supernatural punishment not to be messed with. Because magic is so rare, the bulk of society does not believe it is real and believe anyone who claims to have encountered magic to be drunk or crazy.
The only thing people know for certain is that magic originated from the comet.
When the comet hit the moon, the comet itself exploded and shattered, raining down on the planet as clouds of silvery blue grey dust and shards of shimmering blue quartz like crystals.

Originally, anyone who touched the crystals, were themselves turned into blue crystal. Forests of blue crystal trees, shrubs, plants, and animals stand like cut crystal statues. Herds of blue crystal deer. Blue crystal cars, entire families still inside also now crystal, sit on blue crystal highways, surrounded by blue crystal grass. Jet planes crashed on the ground, fell from the sky after turning into blue crystal in mid flight.
So deadly and globally devastating was the Crystal Plague, that survivors lived in mortal terror of anything resembling blue crystal and most of the world's population shuns, bans, and forbids anyone from entering these crystallized regions, thus a lot of mystery and superstition rise up around the Glass Forests.
Centuries after the comet strike, The Glass Forests exist as “forbidden zones” and the only people who dare enter are criminals, bandits, gangsters, and outlaws who hide there, knowing that no moral decent person will risk entering The Glass Forests.

And this in turn led to the rise of multiple things:
- Elves: Humans who mutated to have long ears, long lives, and possess magic powers, as a side effect of living in The Glass Forest for enough generations to cause their evolution from contact with the blue crystal.
- Faeries: Similar to Elves, they too are an evolution of Humans. Most people believe Elves to be a type of Faerie.
- Demons: It is not known if they are Humans who evolved to have animal traits or if they are animals that evolved and became Humanoid. They come in a vast range of anthropomorphic varieties. Squid headed, cloven hooves, bird winged, butterfly winged, ram horns, fish fins, tails, cat ears… sometimes multiple animal types on a single person. Frog people, Bird people, Sheep people, Cat people, Merfolk, you name any animal, you can probably find at least one of these Furry, Scaly, humanoid versions around.
Elves, Faeries, and Demons, due to their being from the blue crystal regions, have a natural born ability to use magic, due their having had close contact with the blue crystals their whole lives.

A DemonThe basic assumption is that the blue crystals have some sort of a “Godzilla style” radiation side effect, which is not actually magic and has an actual scientific explanation, but because it originated from an alien mineral off a comet, people don't have good working knowledge of what exactly the science behind it is, so it gets called “magic” and the people affected by it as classified as mages and sorcerers.
In theory anyone can pick up one of these blue crystals and use the crystal itself as a source of magic. However, results are minimal and chaotic, in the hands of someone who was never exposed to the Crystal Forests.
The longer one is exposed to the Crystal Forests, the more powerful one becomes, even without holding a blue crystal. The most powerful are the oldest of the Elves, Faeries, and Demons, the ones who are multiple thousands of years old and have been exposed to the blue crystals for dozens of centuries.
Crystal Skulls (the blue crystallized skulls of victims from the comet strike) are seen by some mages as “ultimate power sources” and many of the most powerful mages have vast collections of crystallized skulls, that they harvested off the bodies of victims.
Some mages grind the crystal into a powder and mix it with their food, add it to their drinks, smoke it in a hookah, or use it to make injectable drugs. A lot of mages are drug addicts.
As a general rule, anyone who uses magic is considered to be a ruthless, immoral, criminal.
Also prolonged exposure to the blue crystal material is known to cause insanity (mad cow like symptoms) and so Anyone who has been exposed to it long enough to use magic effectively, is also likely to be deeply mentally unstable as well.

So, I was over on Reddit, you like I often am, and found this question. And answered it, like I do. However, the answer I initially gave was a simple generic answer. I am answering random questions today about writing, self-publishing, character creation, and world building, over on Reddit and decided to take my answers from there and expand upon them even further over here. So that's what this page is. Me rambling on about various aspects of world building techniques I use when writing the Quaraun series. The questions I am answering are embedded here. What Is This Site?
I'm an author. This is an author home page. It's about me, my life, my books, my hobbies, my home town, and anything else that applies to me and my life.
Since starting my writing career in 1978, I have written 130+ novels, 2,000+ short stories, 6,000+ non-fiction articles (ALL are found on this site), a few dozen stage plays, 12,000+ blog posts, and a few comic book scripts for Disney's Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck (I only worked for Disney one year (in 2005) and only wrote a few stories for their Danish comic books).
NOTE: I ONLY write the Quaraun series (aka The Twighlight Manor series aka The Adventures of Quaraun the Insane). In recent years there has been an issue with impersonators trying to pass books off as written by me, notably several non-fiction and Erotica books. I write neither nonfiction nor Erotica.

Clearly they never read my books. However, it is causing a lot of Erotica readers to buy my books and get mad because there are no sex scenes. All I have to say to you is this: you shouldn't fall for the scammers who call themselves Christians and devote their lives to acting like Satan instead of acting like Christ.
Sorry honey, but, the people running around calling my books Erotica are the same dim witted idiots who are also running around saying my car has demons living in it, and are the same people slandering me with UFO rumors as well.
Sorry honey, but if you came here looking for Erotica, haunted cars, aliens, or UFOs, you can consider yourself scammed by a weird group of people who've made it their life goal to do everything in their power to try to cover up my son's murder.
ALL the rumors started a few weeks after my son's murder: the Stephen King rumors, the haunted car rumors, the alien abduction rumors, the UFO rumors, and yes, even the Erotica rumors---the fact remains, my son was murdered November 14, 2013 and the murderer is the one who started ALL of those rumors to try to turn the FBI investigation away from herself.
If you find ANYONE making videos, blogs, or podcasts about me, my car, or in any way, shape, or form slandering me by connecting me to Stephen King, Erotica, Aliens, UFOs or witchcraft, know that there is a 99% chance that YouTuber, Blogger, or podcaster either IS my son's murderer or is a family or friend of my son's murderer.
If you find ANYONE making videos, blogs, or podcasts about me, my car, or in any way, shape, or form slandering me by connecting me to Stephen King, Erotica, Aliens, UFOs or witchcraft, copy the link to the video, blog, or podcast and give it to FBI agent Andy Drewer who is the FBI agent in charge of my son's murder investigation.
Be aware that the New York Podcast is spreading information that was found ONLY in the classified documents of the Old Orchard Beach and Biddeford Police Departments, meaning someone involved in the New York podcast was AT THE MURDER WHEN IT HAPPENED.
NO ONE BESIDES THE MURDERER HERSELF knew what the murder weapon was. And New York Podcasters are broadcasting that information in a DELIBERATE ATTEMPT to sabotage the FBI investigation of my son's murder.

I wonder if the verification will help end the fake scammer accounts? I've been having a problem with someone pretending to be me, and publishing nonfiction books (I don't write nonfiction) about really bad topics (like outright terrorism stuff - how to build bombs and things, really bad stuff), and then going on social media, and trying to pass the books off as mine, right down to listing my home address, posting photos of me and my family and my car, etc. FBI is involved, and found out the ISPN of the accounts is only 14 miles away from me so it's someone local doing it, and FaceBook was able to shut down the fake FB accounts via me submitting driver's lisence and birth certificate to FB to verify my account real, but it's not been so easy to get the fake accounts off places like Amazon.
MOST of the accounts ISPN go to the Biddeford McArthur Library’s public computer, so it is someone EXTREMELY LOCAL who is creating these fake impersonation accounts and they are doing it at the Biddeford public library.
I have been petitioning places like Amazon and Reddit and FaceBook to put ID verification in place, and all 3 are now doing it. Hopefully this verification system will help with that. It's been worse on Reddit too. FBI has found 33 different Reddit accounts pretending to be me, and 27 different FB accounts pretending to be me. Similar numbers on other places. Most are spreading wild rumors about aliens, ufo, Stephen King... FBI has not yet determined why the fakers are doing it, but my son was murdered 11 years ago, and these fake accounts started showng up then, and FBI thinks it's the murderer's family doing it to try to make me look crazy in order that no one will believe me son was murdered... weird and terrifying. So, yeah, if more places like Amazon and Reddit had id verification, that'd cut down on these sorts of scams.
The FBI is ACTIVELY TRACKING DOWN all of the accounts impersonating me - and there have been well over a hundred of them found so far… and if you find an account claiming to be me, you can send the url to FBI Agent Andy Drewer at 207–774–9322 or you can go into his office directly to talk to him in person at the FBI building on Middle street in Portland, his office is on the 4th floor, last hall on the parking garage side.
And while we are talking about it... this person is also doxxing me, AND doing this weird thing where they are finding mentally deranged people, convincing them that I am EelKat and my car is The Goldeneagle and my friend is Etiole. resulting in, 3 to 9 times a WEEK these mentally disturbed people show up in my yard, addressing me as EelKat, calling my homeless friend both "Etiole" and "alien" or "demon" and calling my Dodge "The Goldeneagle" while saying it is haunted!
Trust no one who says I am EelKat.
Miss Citten The Eel Kat is a fictional cat from the fictional planet Ptarmagin. EelKat is her title, not her name. It means, The cat who raises eels as pets.
EelKat is not real. I shouldn't have to say that. EelKat is a fictional talking cat from a series of Fantasy novels. Only someone too stupid to tell the difference between fiction and reality, says an author is one of their characters.
Do you call J. K. Rowling "Harry Potter"? No. You call her the author who created Harry Potter. So why the fuck do you call me EelKat? I am Wendy Christine Allen the author who created EelKat.

Yes, that is a thing locals are saying now. The latest crazy rumor, is that The Scared Pink JellyFish is some real god of a real religion, that I really worship. Which is utterly stupid that people are saying this. I am a 5th generation LDS/Mormon. I do not worship jellyfish.

The same can be said of ALL of my characters. They are all fictional. None of them is real.
The fact that there are SO MANY locals in Old Orchard Beach and Biddeford, Maine, who can not tell the difference between fictional characters and the author of the novels those characters comes from, is deeply concerning.
I don't know who is starting these rumors or why, but I do not appreciate people coming into my yard calling me EelKat. My homeless friend does not like people hunting him down and calling him Etiole or telling him he is an alien or demon. I do not like people calling my 1964 Dodge 300 "The Goldeneagle" or saying it is haunted. Nor do I like being told you worship the jellyfish from my novels because you think it is real.
I do finding it deeply concerning the sheer amount of people who are doing this, AND I find it very unsettling that there are so many who not only do not have enough brain to tell the difference between reality and fictional characters from novels, but also, worrying how many of them take the initiative to hunt me down and show up in my yard.
And if YOU are someone who things EelKat or Etiole or The Sacred Pink JellyFish are real, I would suggest you seek psychiatric help as quickly as possible. You NEED it.

I have — because my son murdered by cancel culture, so I wonder this a lot.
I have never been able to wrap my mind around cancel culture. It has baffled me ever since I first discovered it, when the “God hates fags” group showed up in my yard to start a bonfire on my lawn and burn my books (I’m an author, 138 novels published since 1978) and I later found out the group had spent weeks on social media planning the event and gathering followers, because one minister got it into his head I was gay (I’m not) and write gay erotica (I don’t), and used gay hatred and white power rants (I’m not white, it’s the only thing they did get right) rants on Twitter to incite canceling of my supposedly gay erotica books (that were neither gay nor erotic) and get a mob to show up in my yard.
A week later a bomb blew up my house, I had to rebuild, a week to finishing rebuilding a backhoe drove over my house, 2 months (November 14, 2013) later a crazed woman with a golf club showed up at my college class shattered my spine and bashed my 8 month infant sons head in while screaming “transvestite freak” and claiming I (a cis female) was a “man in a dress”.
Because of Twitter’s cancel culture I homeless, now 11 years, I am crippled paralyzed unable to walk, now 11 years, and my son is dead and the FBI investigation of his murder is still going on these 11 years later, and the killer still walks free and unidentified, and the primary reason for being unidentified is there are over 30k people online who spread these false accusations of gay erotica and transgender about me and the FBI has to investigate EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM, yes, ALL of them, yes, if you’ve ever posted hate about me online you ARE being investigated for your potential involvement in my son’s murder, and in 11 years, they’ve only made it a quarter of the way through that list, and not yet found golf club woman..
And the man who started it all, Peter something, is now the biggest YouTuber in Quebec and the biggest anti trans YouTuber on the planet, and has yet to be held responsible for starting the gay erotica and transvestite rumours about me on Twitter because, for some reason there are no laws that hold cancel cries accountable for the the death and destruction their hivemind followers do after being incited into a frenzy by the cancelers tweets.
Perhaps the issue is I am too old to understand the herd mentality of cancel culture, I grew up on a very isolated egg farm and I was 42 years old before cancel culture existed, or perhaps my not using social media causes me to not understand it.
But I wonder how many people out there are like me, lives destroyed by haters, who hate things about me, that aren’t even things I am or do, because they believe one cancelers lies on Twitter and never took the time to fact check before they reacted.

At one point the man who was with her called her "Vallerie". But she herself talked of herself (in a bizarre, not how normal people talk "3rd person") Claire. She kept saying things like "I'm Claire, bitch!" and "I'm Claire you fucking transvestite freak!"
She really, really, really, really was going overboard in emphasizing that her name was Claire - to the point that I am led to believe that her name is NOT Claire, and that she was in fact pretending to be someone else, who's name was Claire.
The fact that the man with her (who was later discovered to be a Biddeford police officer - he was identified in February 2025 when he was killed in a car accident in New Hampshire.) called her "Vallerie" and not "Claire" when he talked to her, indicates, that her name is more likely to be Valerie, then Claire.
But I know no one named either Vallerie or Claire, and outside of these events where she shows up and attacks, I've never seen this woman before and have no clue who she is.
She has attacked more then a dozen times, IN ADDITION to the golf club attack when she murdered my son and crippled me.

This attack is the one which caused worse damage, and I have still not yet recovered from now in 2025.
