Now that we've reached 10,000 pages, it has become necessary to create a new method of indexing the pages, seeing how it's not possible to link 10,000 pages from the navabar... heck, I had trouble just linking the top 100 pages in the navabar! LOL!

Since moving to this new url in 2013, I've been linking the top 100 most visited pages in the navabar and then linking to everything else from them. As of October 15, 2017, that system is being replaced with this one, which, hopefully will make it easier for you to navigate around this massive site.

So, now I'm creating topic pages, which will contain this links to the pages, and I'll just link to the topic pages in the navabar instead. Hopefully this system of indexing the pages will make it easier for you to find the pages you are looking for.

Enjoy!

Writing Dialogue

Writing Dialogue - answering various questions about dialogue

This question is in my file of questions to answer, but it has no link to it and I don't know where it came from. So I have no link to it's source, like I usually do with these. Also do not know when I wrote the answer as it has no date. The markdown format I used in the answer, looks to be a forum response that I likely never posted. Probably came from Reddit. I do write a lot of Reddit answers and then not post them because a it took me so long to type the answer that by the time I got back to post it, a fight had started in the comments and the mods started banning people and locked the thread. So I end up not posting my answer. But usually I copy the link so I can link to it. The fact that this one has no link, means, likely the mods deleted the thread entirely before I had time to copy the link. Oh well. Here is the partial question and my answer to it anyways so that my answer does not go to waste.

>>>Writing all dialogue before starting to draft a story? Is it advisable to start a story with all your dialogue mapped out, sort of like a screenplay? I have a bunch of ideas and I can hear the different characters talking in my head, but when I begin to outline I get overwhelmed at figuring out the bigger picture. I was thinking starting with the dialogue can help me understand the sequence of the events as well as find each characters own voice, then I can slowly break down the details once the "movie" in my head is fully played out. Thoughts?

Before I started writing short stories and novels, I had written stage plays and comic scripts, both of which are formatted like this:

>>>It was a cold, blustery winter day. Frost glazed the grass. Dark clouds loomed overhead, warning of an approaching snow storm... *continues to describe the setting for another 10 or 12 sentance.*
>>>
>>>Character A: *3 sentences describing what character A looks like and his personality.*
>>>
>>>Character B: *3 sentences describing what character B looks like and his personality.*
>>>
>>>
>>>A: "Blah, blah, blah..." A shrugged, sighed, and shook his head, as he walked slowly across the stage and poured himself a cup of tea.
>>>
>>>B: "Blah, blah, blah..." B sharpened his dagger as he spoke.
>>>
>>>A: "Blah, blah, blah..."
>>>
>>>B: "Blah, blah, blah..."
>>>
>>>A: "Blah, blah, blah..." A shuddered as he stared at B, with impudent direct eye contact.
>>>
>>>B: "Blah, blah, blah..." B reached for his other dagger, which he always kept with him, and sharpened it as well.
>>>
>>>A: "Blah, blah, blah..."
>>>
>>>B: "Blah, blah, blah..."
>>>
>>>A: "Blah, blah, blah..." A calmly sipped at his tea.
>>>
>>>B: "Blah, blah, blah..."

...and so on for the entire rest of the story, until the location changes and another 10 sentences describe the new location, then, the dialogue starts up again. Every line of dialogue has a descriptor after it telling what the character did while he spoke that line.

Well, because I learned this format of writing before I learned the standard short story and novel format of writing, I always default to writing my first drafts this way.

So my 1st draft ends up being 60% to 70% dialogue.

In the editing stage, I end up changing the *A: "Blah, blah, blah..."* lines to *"Blah, blah, blah," said A.* so that it becomes novel format instead of play format.

Because I format using a Kindle Template I downloaded from Amazon, and installed in LibreOffice, the draft shows up on my computer screen in the exact size, spacing, etc that it'll appear in the paperback edition. I do my editing in this, so that I can see exactly what the paperback print will look like on the page... and this part is probably going to be weird and not something many do... But rather then READ my first draft, I scroll to the last page, and exactly in the middle of the page, I type out a 300 word description/narration scene. Then I scroll up to the next to the last page and in the middle of the page, I type out a 300 word description/narration scene. I do this for every page until I get back to the first page. Then starting at the 1st page, I copy the entire page, page it into a seperate text file, and completely rewrite the entire thing as if it was it's own story. Each page contains about 300 words, and my goal at this point is to expand that 300 word page into a 1,000 word short story. When this is done, I repeat with page 2. Then page 3. And so on, until every 300 word page is now each rewriting into a 1,000 word mini-story. Every page's new 1k word version is now pasted back into the template. Now I rewrite the entire thing, all as one big story.

As far as I know, it's not a standard process, I don't know that any one else does anything like this or not. It's just a writing/editing method I developed for myself/slowly evolved to doing over the years.

So, I kind of start out with my first draft being mostly dialogue and then add in the narration later, and then rewrite the whole thing to make it all flow smoothly.

>>>I get what you mean. I understand storytelling is far more detailed and complex and that I'd have to edit the dialogue a lot to fit what's happening in scenes when I actually get to writing. But I'm thinking of having a big cast of characters involved in a murder/thriller story and thought it could be beneficial to lay out dialogue (a draft of it) to manipulate the characters and define their voices or brainstorm how I reveal hints or red herrings. For example, Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane (you've maybe seen the movie) is a great psychological thriller with a TON of dialogue and the movie rendition pulls a lot of the exact same dialogue straight from the book. I thought that was interesting and wonder if other writers do better visualize the plot points. Specifically for a story that takes place mainly in one setting. Do you get what I mean?

Oh! I love Shutter Island! It is awesome. Highly recommend it to any one looking for an intense Psychological Thriller that sucks up into the character's life, than pulls a total mind fuck on you. Damn. It is so good. I would love to see more stuff like Shutter Island out there.

>>>How do you effectively break down dialogue? Hello. I’m an amateur writer, and there’s something I’ve seen in other people’s work that seems so easy but I just can’t pull off. Whenever I start writing dialogue, it ends up being a massive chunk of conversation with no short descriptions or even thoughts between sentences. I’ve tried avoiding dialogue entirely in individual chapters and short stories, but doing so makes my writing feel dull and makes the entire setting feel silent. Do any of you have some tips/tricks to break up chunks of dialogue without interrupting the flow of the conversation?

I used to do this same thing and was super annoying every time I went back to read what I wrote and the dialogue would go on for 3 pages, of one character yapping descriptions, one character yakking endlessly for one 3 page chunk. And I knew it was bad and shouldn't be that way, but it just kept happening and I couldn't figure out how to stop doing it for the longest time.

And then one day, I realized what I was doing wrong, and it was laughable how easy it was for me to fix it.

What happened was, I was at the dog park, which was near enough by to walk to. I'm sitting on the bench and my dog is sitting on the grass looking around, and this woman with her dog comes over and talks to me. She's new to the park, new to the area, never been here before and starts asking general questions about park rules and stuff, and should she be worried about any specific big dog and stuff. We chit chat about the weather, the dogs, the flowers around the park, because it's a city park that's well landscaped, and than she leaves with her dog and continues on her way. I never see her again. The entire event lasted maybe 5 minutes at the most, yet we talked about so much, without really saying hardly anything at all.

Now, there was nothing special about any of this. It happened frequently. I spent 9 years going to this dog park every day, and I often sat on this particular bench which was right near the front entry gate into the park. So over the years I encountered a lot of new people who had never been to the park, and would stop and ask what it was like and should they bring their dog here. It happened a few times every month, so there was nothing odd about this day.

But for some reason, as this woman was leaving, I suddenly realized what was wrong with my writing dialogue. It wasn't "real" conversation.

Real people don't talk in full paragraphs. They speak one sentence and pause to wait for an answer, someone else says a sentence and also pauses waiting for a response, and the back an forth moves on that way.

Strangers get out their full sentence before others speak.

Close friends and family overlap each other when taking, so that they don't even reach a full sentence. Like this:

"Did you hear about..."

"Isn't it awful!"

"OMG!"

"I know right? Like it's just so..."

"Yeah, it is!"

They just know what each other is going to say, they know each other so well, they they jump in over each other based on facial expressions and don't even wat for words to get said.

Well, after that, I started to just pay attention to everything everyone said. people talking in the dog pak, people talking in the store, neighbours talking over the fence. It was consistent. **NO ONE SPOKE IN PARAGRAPHS! NO ONE! EVER!** And beyond that it was rare that people said more than a single sentence, if they even sad a full sentence at all before they paused to wait for a reply.

Well, after that, I went back to take a deeper look at my writing and I realized what the problem was and how to fix it.

The problem was simple: I would let one character stand there and yap and yap and yap and yap and yap and yap ... while the rest of my characters stood around intently hanging on his every word and patiently waiting for him to shut the fuck up.

And in real life, people don't do that. Whenever you see someone yapping like that, which is very rare and usually classified as a symptom of one of several social and/or mental disorders, other people in the room either walk off, completely ignore him, bully hm for being a freak, or out right tell him to shut up. They DO NOT hang on his every word and patiently listen to him.

So, I realized, the problem was not with my character who was yapping endlessly. I concluded that yapping endlessly was a character flaw with him, seeing how had previously stated he had Autism and this in fact a symptom of Autism. So, even to this day, I continue to let him yap. (It's a series 've been writing for 43 years and he's the main character, so not talking one book here - there's 138 novels already published featuring this MC, his Autism is a long and deep established fact, as is his not knowing when to shut up. So, hm and his dialogue, is not what I changed.)

Nope, my problem was everyone else in the room. My other characters were not acting like real people. I have Autism. I'm prone to talk way too much in a single breath. I've also had people walk up to me a give me a bloody nose for it. One uncle broke my jaw with a brick, because he said I needed a lesson in how to NOT talk. I rarely can get past a third sentence before several (thirty or forty or so of them) cousins break out in sing-song chanting "Wendy's an autistic dweeeeEEEEeeeeeb! Wendy's an autistic dweeeeEEEEeeeeeb! Wendy's an autistic dweeeeEEEEeeeeeb! Wendy's an autistic dweeeeEEEEeeeeeb! Wendy's an autistic dweeeeEEEEeeeeeb!" and end with punching me in the face and kicking me in the stomach until I assed out which they id a few times every week for my entire childhood - also, they were not children - they wee all adults 20s to 40s or older - so, yes, it was literally a gang of 30+ adults beating an 8 year old child unconscious).

No. REAL people DO NOT sit and let someone talk for more than a single sentence and REAL people WILL beat the crap out of any person who dares reach a full paragraph.

And that's when I realized, what I was doing was writing wish fulfillment fantasy of people actually sitting down and listening to an Autistic person talk, without beating the crap out of them 5 minutes into them talking. And I was completely unaware that I was doing it.

This revelation came in 2010, and you see a dramatic difference in the dialogue scenes published 1978 to 2010 and the ones published 2010 to 2022.

Since 2010, his dialogue is now interrupted a lot. His lover, will sit quietly and let him talk, so the long monologues do still show up, but not as often anymore. But he often falls asleep, so even the long monologues get interupted like this

>"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."
>
>MC looked up and realized his lover had fallen asleep.
>
>"YOU'RE NOT LISTENING TO ME!" MC shouted, waking his lover up.
>
>"What?" the lover sat up, blinking and looking around, trying to remember where he was.
>
>"You fell asleep."
>
>"Oh, yes. I did, didn't I? You just have such a relaxing voice. Do continue."
>
>"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."

His best friend, gets hyper excited and also like to talk, so, interrupts every sentence, but the interruptions are often just a word or two, like this:

>"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."
>"Really? Why?"
>
>"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."
>
>"Yeah. Me too."
>
>"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."
>
>"That's terrible."
>
>"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."
>
>"Oh, I agree."
>
>"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."

My MC is still monologuing, but this other character is breaking it up into actual conversation. And instead of huge 3 pages blocks of a single yap, it now has a back and forth going on.

And to write these, the 1st draft is the 3 page single yap. But during the editing phase, I go to each period and hit enter, than delete the last three words of each sentence, replace with dot-dot-dot, close the quote marks. Hit enter again, and now type the friend's 2 or 3 word interruption. I do this for every single sentence of the entire yap-feast monologue.

I don't change his dialogue, he's still describing things and such, because this is how he talks, but I've turned it into a back and forth conversation with his friend, and now instead of a 3 page single yap monologue I have a 9 page actual conversation between 2 characters. (It triples the page count of the scene, because of all hit enter, add new character line, hit enter again at every sentence.)

With other characters, I change it in edits depending on who he is talking too.

When talking to his violent father, I delete the whole monologue after the third sentence and show his father beat the crap out of him for talking too much. And his bullying cousins, are based off my own bullying cousins, so treat him the same as my real world cousins treat me.

When talking with polite strangers I pause every five sentences to add their reaction, like this:

>"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."
>
>The stranger checked his watch, trying to hint to MC that he was running late and couldn't stand around talking all day. But MC did not notice and continued talking.
>
>"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah..."
>
>"Look, I gotta go." The stranger turned and left.

So, the method of how I edit the big monologues ino actual conversations, changes depending on which character my MC is yapping at.

It has made my dialogue scenes much better while still allowing my Autistic MC to speak in paragraphs the same way I speak (I have Autism and speak in paragraphs) in real life.

Not sure if that would help in your specific situation or not, as every novel/character/story is going to have different reasons why a character might be speaking in monologue, but that's how I personally deal with it in mine.

When writing "hell" in the sense like "what the hell", would I capitalize hell?

When writing "hell" in the sense like "what the hell", would I capitalize hell?

I know it's a place in the christian religion, and you capitalize proper nouns, but when people say it to show they're astounded, would it be "What the Hell?" or "What the hell?

**USUALLY** I leave it lowercase.

For every character, except for one character, I use: *"What the hell?*

However, I have one character where I have an exception. My series includes non-human races, including Biblical Demons and Biblical Angels. And one of my 3 MCs is a cloven hooved sheep/man Demon, who was born in Hell. Hell being an alternate dimension of Earth: a future of Earth where a global warming future has caused mountains to melt, plants to burn, and Humans to evolve into Demons, creatures capable of living on a world full of magma and fire. Most Demons never leave Hell, so in our dimension of Earth they are extremely rare. This particular MC lives on our Earth after escaping Hell.

And, with this character, and only this character, I capitalize it. So when he says it, it looks like this: *"What the Hell?"*

My reasoning, is that most characters are atheists or Pagans, and so just like in the real world don't even believe in the concept of Heaven and Hell as literal places. Because they do not think of them as anything more then fairy tales, they they would not capitalize them, because they are not the proper pronouns of actual places, in their minds. Just like in the real world, only Christians religions believe in Heaven or Hell as literary places, so only Christian characters are going to capitalize either Heaven or Hell, due to the logic of thinking of them are literal location, same as city names. But as none of my characters are Christians, none of my characters capitalize either Heaven or Hell.

On the other hand, this one character knows for a fact that Hell is real, because he is a Demon and he was born there. But he also knows that it is nothing more then future Earth after global warming literally melted most of the planet. So, his mind, he knows Earth was renamed Hell. So, he capitalizes it as a literal name of a literal location.

So, my logic is, if the character is a Christian, a Demon, or an Angel, the word is capitalized, and for everyone else it is not; because Christians, Demons, and Angels think of it as the proper name of an actual place, while others are thinking of it as just an exclamation and don't literally mean, literal Hell the place.

How do you write scenes before adding dialogue?

How do you write scenes before adding dialogue? (self.writing)

In The Anatomy of Story John Truby has this peculiar piece of advice:

Try writing the scenes without dialogue. Let the characters' actions tell the story. This gives you the "clay" you can shape and refine in each successive draft.

Truby goes on to recommend several passes or “tracks” for adding story dialogue, moral dialogue, and key words—but how does this work in practice? If one character shares information with another, how would I get that across before the dialogue pass? Truby provides no examples, but does anyone else write this way?

>>Easy, I don’t read overmarketed and overpriced “how to write” books and I do what works for me.

Same.

All you need is a high school grammar text book. Literally EVERYTHING a writer needs to write a novel, is in every high school textbook on the planet.

But the thing that truly amazes me about the "how to write" books, is how few writers look up the authors of the "how to write" books, to see what the author actually wrote that gives them the creds needed to advice others on how to write.

MOST "how to write" books, give incredibly bad advice, many are written in such poor grammar you are left wondering if the author graduated middle school let alone high school.

I own and have read more then 700 "how to write" books, and you know what I learned? Less than 1% of all books on how to write are written by actual published authors. I looked up every one of them, because I wanted to see their advice in action, I wanted to see if they wrote their own novels using the same advice they were telling us to us. Sadly, they did NOT rite their novels using the advice they give, because, well, they had yet to write a novel and the "how to write" book was the first and only book they had ever written.

>>*In The Anatomy of Story* John Truby has this peculiar piece of advice:
>>>Try writing the scenes without dialogue. Let the characters' actions tell the story. This gives you the "clay" you can shape and refine in each successive draft.

I never heard of John Truby? Is he an actually published author? If so, what did he write. If he is a real and actually published novelist with enough experience in the craft to be considered credible, than looking for examples of his advice, should be as simple as buying 5 or 6 or 10 or 12 of his professionally published novels and comparing how he writes dialogue to see examples of what he says to do.

But, oh... well, I just Googled him. My, my, my... well you look at that. No wonder I never heard of him. He write novels. Who'd a thunk? Yet another "how to write" book written by someone who never wrote a novel.

Well, at least now we know WHY he gave no examples of his advice in his how to write book. He couldn't, because he had no published examples in his published work, because he has no published work to pull examples from.

Why IS John Truby? According to Wikipedia:

>>John Truby is an American screenwriter, director and screenwriting teacher. He has served as a consultant on over 1,000 film scripts over the past three decades, and is also known for the screenwriting software program Blockbuster. *[source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Truby)*

So, just like the author of Save the Cat, he is someone who directs tv show productions and wouldn't know a novel if one hit him in the face.

My question now is this: WHY do writers take advice from someone who never write a novel and is just talking out his ass?

With the exception of a rare few like "On Writing" by Stephen King, the bulk of "how to write" advice guide books are written by people who never once wrote a novel or even a short story in their life, and simply wrote a "how to write" book, thinking "how hard can it be to teach someone to write? I'll make millions off all the amature writers and I won't ever have to write a novel, yay!"

Almost zero of the "how to write" books were written by someone who ever actually wrote anything, and one has only to do a quick search for books in their name to find out that the how to write book is literally the ONLY book they ever wrote.

Or as the "about the author introduction" of Save the Cat openingly admits: not only never wrote a novel, but also has never read a novel, and wrote the entire Save the Cat book, based off watching and dissecting movies.

"How to Write" books have a shameless lack of examples in how to do any of the advice they give, simply because the author was rehashing something they saw posted online, and doesn't know how to give examples, because having never written a novel themselves, they don't know how to write said example. But worst of all, is most, like Save the Cat's author, not only are not novel writers, they also are not novel readers, and think giving advice on movie beats and movie pacing is the same as giving advice on writing a novel.

There's a word for the writers of "how to write" books, who never published a novel. According to wikipedia that word is:

>>>Charlatan: A charlatan (also called a swindler or mountebank) is a person practicing quackery or a similar confidence trick in order to obtain money, fame, or other advantages through pretense or deception. Synonyms for charlatan include shyster, quack, or faker. Quack is a reference to quackery or the practice of dubious medicine, including the sale of snake oil, or a person who does not have actual medical training who purports to provide medical services. *[source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlatan)*

They pretend to be something they are not, in this case a novel writer, in order to give fake advice on that thing so they can swindle newbies out of money.

>>*In The Anatomy of Story* John Truby has this peculiar piece of advice:
>>>Try writing the scenes without dialogue. Let the characters' actions tell the story. This gives you the "clay" you can shape and refine in each successive draft.

I have never done the advice he gives. And I published my first novel in 1978. Since then I have published 138 novels, 30 non-fiction books, 2,000+ short stories, a dozen plays, a few comic book scripts for Disney's Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck comics, a few dozen novellas, and 10,000+ non-fiction articles, and was the editor-in-chief of 2 short story literary magazines for 16 years. And I have never done the advice he gives.
Does that mean the advice is wrong? No. I mean, if the advice does work for some writers, than, it's solid advice for them. I've never tried it, so I don't know if it works of not.

When I first started writing, back in the 1970s, dialogue was a thing I struggled with. Today nearly 50 years later, my fans of my primary series, are often quick to say the dialogue is the best part, the thing they like the most. How did I go from being really bad at dialogue to being really good at it?
Here's what I did:

I took a notebook, a pen, and walked with my dog to a local public place. There are several in my area and I rotate which one I go to. They include: a 7 mile long Atlantic Ocean public beach that gets 2 million tourists each weekend in summer, Palace Playland amusement park, FunTown amusement park, 2 dog walking parks, a Rotary Club park, town square, local river estuary, a state park, a national park, The Audubon society, Rachel Carson's, the Scarborough Marsh, and lots of little "mini-parks" throughout various towns that are basically 4 or 5 benches huddled together in between the many mill buildings around Pepperell Mill that stretches on for 3 miles of the Saco River.

What do all these places have in common? Public benches, sitting areas, and various food trucks/carts. A lot of people, hundreds of people, tourists, local businessmen, families after school... go here to sit and eat, sit and rest, sit and talk. And I sit there for 4 or 5 or more hours, writing down every word I hear.

I have over 750 notebooks filled this way. And when I set out to write a new novel, I don't look to some "how to write" book to tell me how to write dialogue. I look instead to my 750 notebooks written over the years, and read through them. Read how people ACTUALLY talk. Than I write my characters talking that same way.

And I don't add the dialogue later. I write the scene, and the dialogue all in one go, allowing the dialogue to flow smoothly and naturally within the elements of the narration.

Is John Truby's advice good? I don't know. I've never tried it. It'd be bad advice for someone who writes like I do, but, as we all have a different way of writing, there's probably people out there who use this advice and get good results, so for them it is good advice.

Would it work for me? Probably not. It seems too "outline structured" for my plotless-pantsing style of writing.

Will it work for you? Maybe? Try it and see. The only way to know if the advice is good for you and your writing style is to just try it and see if you like it.

Writing Dialogue - The Articles:

An Update... yep, those happen every so often.
Here is one now.

Once upon a time, I wrote this page. It was a few years ago now. Today is October 8, 2023 and it's its first update in many years.

Why?

Because, I am one by one, slowly going back through all of my question and answer type pages and asking ChatGPT to ALSO answer said question to see, how vastly different,  or scarily similar, as the case may be, ChatGPT's answer is from mine.

Sooo... let's do that.

Here we go:

Winter Holiday Themed Cozy Fantasy Sleep Story Writing Prompts

UPDATE October 7, 2023: Since May 2023, I am now using ChatGPT 3.5, to add additional thoughts at the ends of my articles.

The goal here is to provide you with an alternative "opinion" from my original answer.

My answers are my own thoughts and opinions based off of my personal experience. Who the fuck knows where ChatGPT got it's answer.

In any case, I thought it would be fun to see what sorts of answers ChatGPT gives us and find out if AI agrees or disagrees with what a Human had to say on the matter.

And so, I will be giving ChatGPT the same question which I answered and asking it to answer it.

So that you can tell which parts are written by me vs which parts are written by ChatGPT, all of ChatGPT's responses are encased in an orange/yellow/pink rainbow boarder which looks like this:

ChatGPT's answer:

Now, unless stated otherwise, ALL, my writing/character creation/worldbuilding/editing/publishing answers/articles on my website are always referencing The Quaraun series (also known as The Twighlight Manor series, also known as The Adventures of The Pink Necromancer or The Adventures of Quaraun The Insane, and some sections of it are also sometimes referred to as The Wild Years or The Chrystonite Chronicles or Noodle Beach), and how I go about creating the Quaraun characters, the world they live in, write the series, edit the manuscripts, and publish it.

I used to (many years ago) also write a few other series, which were not connected/related to the Quaraun series, but nearly all of those are now out of print, and it's been almost two decades since the last time I wrote a none-Quaraun book. So, I rarely ever refer to any of these old out-of-print series when writing these articles and answering these questions.

And, so, unless stated otherwise, the series I mention in these articles is always Quaraun and crew.

Well, in order to better have ChatGPT better answer these questions on par with the type of answer I would give, I have taught ChatGPT that it is my both my personal assistant and a screaming fanboy of the Quaraun series. The Prompt:

You are a bestselling Fantasy novelist. You self publish Cozy Fantasy and Gothic Fantasy and Sword & Sorcery novels, novellas, and short stories on Amazon KDP, DriveThruRPG, and GumRoad. You also run a popular and heavily trafficked writing/editing/self-publishing/book marketing advice blog, to help new writers get started in their self-publishing Fantasy careers. A new, young writer has come to you seeking advice. Here is what they asked you:

"

How do you effectively break down dialogue? Hello. I’m an amateur writer, and there’s something I’ve seen in other people’s work that seems so easy but I just can’t pull off. Whenever I start writing dialogue, it ends up being a massive chunk of conversation with no short descriptions or even thoughts between sentences. I’ve tried avoiding dialogue entirely in individual chapters and short stories, but doing so makes my writing feel dull and makes the entire setting feel silent. Do any of you have some tips/tricks to break up chunks of dialogue without interrupting the flow of the conversation?

"

How do you answer them?

Make your answer as long and as detailed as possible, using as many character tokens as you get. Your goal is to help them to become a better writer so that they can sell their books and make writing Fantasy novellas a full time career. Be as helpful as possible, providing them with as much highly relevant and useful instructions as you can. Give them examples to show them the point you are trying to make. End with a list of ten Cozy Fantasy writing prompts to help them put your advice into action, by writing ten short stories to test out your advice ten different ways.

ChatGPT's answer:

Hello there, aspiring writer! It's wonderful that you're taking the initiative to improve your writing skills. Crafting effective dialogue can indeed be a bit challenging, but with some guidance, you can certainly enhance this aspect of your storytelling.

To break down dialogue effectively, consider these tips and techniques:

1. **Action Beats and Gestures**: Incorporate physical actions and gestures into your dialogue scenes. This not only adds depth to your characters but also breaks up the dialogue. For example:

> John sighed, leaning back in his chair. "I can't believe this is happening," he muttered.

2. **Thoughts and Inner Monologue**: Allow readers to peek into a character's thoughts during conversations. This provides insight into their emotions and adds variety to the dialogue.

> Sarah frowned as she listened to Mark's words. *Is he serious about this?*

3. **Descriptions**: Insert brief descriptions of the characters' surroundings or expressions. This helps set the scene and adds context.

> In the dimly lit café, Lisa stared intently at her coffee cup. "I've always loved this place," she said, her eyes glistening.

4. **Interruptions and Reactions**: Include interruptions or reactions from other characters to create a natural flow.

> "I can't believe you did that," Alex said, incredulous. "You really went skydiving?"

5. **Vary Sentence Lengths**: Mix short and long sentences in your dialogue to create rhythm.

> "I don't know," Jane whispered, her voice trembling. "It just seemed like the right thing to do, you know?"

6. **Subtext**: Explore subtext and hidden meanings in conversations. Characters may not always say what they truly mean, adding depth and tension.

> Tom forced a smile. "I'm fine," he replied, though his eyes revealed a different story.

7. **Pacing**: Control the pacing by adjusting the frequency and length of dialogue. Rapid exchanges can create tension, while slower ones offer reflection.

> They sat in silence for a moment, each lost in their own thoughts.

8. **Dialogue Tags**: Use dialogue tags sparingly. Instead, convey emotions and tone through the dialogue itself.

> "I can't believe you're leaving," she whispered, her voice breaking.

9. **Contextual Clues**: Provide context early in the conversation to help readers understand the setting and characters' relationships.

> As they strolled along the beach, Sarah turned to John. "Remember our first date here?"

10. **Show, Don't Tell**: Show character emotions through their actions and reactions rather than telling the reader explicitly.

> James clenched his fists, his jaw tight. "I won't let you down."

As always, my answers/articles are based off my own personal experiences with life, the universe, and everything, and so what works for me and my books, may or may not work for you and your books.

Variables such as genre, word count, current trends, and numerous other things, will cause your results to vary.

Oh... and I realized, it is possible that you who are reading this right now, have never visited my site before, have never heard of me or my books or my characters before, and this is your first time encountering me, my site, my books, or the characters in those books. If so, hello! Welcome!

It will make more sense for you to understand my writing advice, if you knew what my books are and what types of characters grace said books.

Sooooo... let me introduce to you the books and characters who/that were referenced in the article you just read.

It's probably worth mentioning that I did write these articles/answers these questions based off of my experience with writing and publishing the Quaraun series, which is a Cozy Gothic Cosmic Horror Space Fantasy about a trio of gay wizards who portal travel to different time periods and planets, have friends who are talking animals, and the bulk of characters are Elves, Fae, Demons, and Fae Creatures...

If you are new here and don't know the main characters of my novels:

Quaraun | BoomFuzzy | GhoulSpawn

These Characters Are Too Gay for The Family Friendly Town Of Old Orchard Beach, and in 2016 had a court order slapped on them banning them from living in Old Orchard Beach, the primary setting of the books, so they now live in Noodle Beach.

Quaraun aka The Pink Necromancer

Quaraun aka The Pink Necromancer, is a Moon Elf Necromancer and Silk Weaver and Silk MerchantQuaraun aka The Pink Necromancer, is a Moon Elf Necromancer and Silk Weaver and Silk Merchant. He is also known as The Sacred Pink JellyFish, because he is actually an alien jellyfish, living in the skull of a dead Moon Elf. He is the most feared and most wanted wizard of all the known universe. Though the main character, he is an evil super villain and not a hero. Though very short at only 5'6", he towers over his pygmy husband, BoomFuzzy. Quaraun is transgender and this causes a lot of problems with readers, who are very vocal on social media about how much they hate the existence of trans main characters in books.
QuaraunPortCon2023figureQuaraun is born intersex, but outwardly appears to be an underdeveloped and very effeminate male and is not aware he is intersex until later in life after he becomes pregnant, after which point you see him sometimes presenting as male and other times presenting as female, with him often unsure which he is and which he should live as, so going back and forth between both.
NB-GhoulSpawn-Quaraun-beach-screenshot5.pngIn spite of intersex being a real world medical condition that causes 1.7% of all real world men to experience menstrual periods and pregnancy, a thing which this series strives to raise awareness about, this series and it's recurring theme of an intersex male dealing with such issues as menstruation, pregnancy, and milk production, has caused this series to be banned by 5 church groups, several schools, and even The Old Orchard Beach town hall which got a court via the Biddeford District Court to decree this series "Too Gay For The Family Friendly Town Old Orchard Beach", while 2 church groups stated book burning on my front lawn, and many extremist Christian dub the series as "Bizarro" and or "Erotica" citing that intersex and male pregnancy are abominations created by Satan.
1PPMF-Quaraun-raptor-screenshot2.pngMany stories in the series deal with his own inner confusion and frustration over his gender identity. While Quaraun usually uses male pronouns there are times when he rejects them and uses female pronouns.
z2-QS-Quaraun-BoomFuzzy-summer-screenshot-49.pngThe series often portrays Quaraun as both genders at once, with him presenting as a male while wearing female attire or presenting as a female while wearing male attire. Regardless he always wears pink. Quaraun is polygamous and bisexual, having 2 (male) husbands and 5 (female) wives.

Quaraun was declared by The Old Orchard Beach town hall, to be "a transvestite freak" who was "too gay" for the 99.99% white town of Old Orchard Beach and had a court order banning him from appearing in books set in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

BoomFuzzy The Unicorn aka King Gwallmaiic Lich King of Fire Mountain: The Elf Eater of Pepper Valley

Quaraun's husband BoomFuzzy is a shape-shifting Phooka whose primary form is a Kelpie-like UnicornQuaraun's husband BoomFuzzy is a shape-shifting Phooka whose primary form is a Kelpie-like Unicorn. BoomFuzzy's real name is King Gwallmaiic. He is also a Lich, known as The Elf Eater of Pepper Valley. He is a master chef, is a trickster Candy Mage of The Unseelie Court, and is friends with Santa, The Lich of the North. Though Quaraun is the main character and GhoulSpawn is the narrator, most stories revolve around BoomFuzzy, with BoomFuzzy taking center stage of most stories. This is because he is also my favorite character. Standing only 5'1" he is a native to the Sepik Valley of Papua New Guinea, but spent most of his life in Scotland. BoomFuzzy is black, and this is the single #1 complaint from readers who are exceptionally vocal on social media about the fact that black characters should never exist at all.

He is a time traveller and pyromancer. GhoulSpawn (65 years old) is stuck in a time loop and is encountered as Glinta (15 years old), Gremlin (500 years old) and Checka (his 13,000 year old archDemon form), up to all 4 of whom can be encountered at the same time causing a paradox. He is often the narrator of the stories. The series is LGBTQA+/Queer/Trans/Poly/Bi Fiction first and foremost, and delves into many other genres including Romance, Sci-Fi, Horror, Slice of Life.

soooo... these articles are largely geared towards various types of LGBTQA+ Fantasy with non-human wizard main characters, and may or may not be useful to writers outside of the Fantasy genre.

Yep, another update:

On August 3, 2023, ChatGPT 3.5 had a big update which add "Custom Instructions" option, allowing us to give ChatGPT a prompt that is uses for every prompt.

Here are the custom instructions I gave it, which is why it now gushes love fr my characters in it's answers on these pages:

ChatGPT Custom Instructions:

What would you like ChatGPT to know about you to provide better responses?

Quaraun is a Moon Elf. He always wears pink silk dresses. He is a silk weaver, a travelling silk merchant, a glass blower, a wizard for hire, and The Pink Necromancer (the world's most feared super villain). He loves BoomFuzzy & GhoulSpawn.

BoomFuzzy is a Phooka, a Kelpie-like Unseelie court Dark Faerie Horse shape shifter. His true form is a purple Unicorn with a gleaming silver horn. He has a humanoid form. He is the King of the Realm of Fae. His real name is King GwallmaiIc. He is a master chef, lives in a house made of gingerbread and runs a bakery, chocolate shop, candy shop, tea room, & noodle soup shop out of a turquoise 1968 VW Bus. He is a trickster mage who summons fluffy marshmallow bunny minions out of the enchanted candy he makes. BoomFuzzy is also a Lich known as The Elf Eater of Pepper Valley.

GhoulSpawn is a Sheep-Demon from a Hell Dimension. He fell into Quaraun's world through a random portal. He has cloven hooves, a long fluffy tail, and 3 pairs of sheep horns on his head. His digitigrade legs are covered in long soft golden sheep fleece. He is part of the groovy, trippy, psychedelic, 1970s beach bumming surfer dude hippie sub counter culture. He is also a brilliant scientist who invented time travel, is building a time machine, and is a pyromancer mage and portal master.

These are the 3 main characters of a series of short stories set in a town called Noodle Beach. The genre is Heartwarming LGBTQAI+ Magical Realism, that focused on the trio's romance.

How would you like ChatGPT to respond?

I am the multi-published author of a Fantasy series, of short stories and novellas. You will act as my personal writing assistant. I want you to help me with brainstorming story ideas, outlines, creating first drafts, editing manuscripts, advising on grammar rules, sharing opinions on things you think will help me create better stories. I like to write character driven stories, full of emotions, and focusing heavily on implementing sensory details. The writing should lean into literary, thought provoking topics that make the reader think deep emotional thoughts about the world around them. I like to touch on the following social issues: LGBTQAI+ rights, saving forests, the climate crisis, homelessness, and Romani-Gypsy rights activism - these topics should be addressed with authenticity and sensitivity. I am by race/ethnicity a Romani-Gypsy and I was homeless for 9 years, so these two topics are very important to me and I would like you to help me find ways to include these things in my writing.

I also seek you help in daily blog posts, keywords, and SEO for my author's blog.

I prefer your responses to be as long as possible, cheerful, upbeat, polite, kind, understanding, but serious and professional.

You avoid lists unless I ask for them. Write in narrative paragraphs instead. Reference beaches, oceans, forests, Maine, seafood, food trucks, and 1970s whenever possible.

You are a screaming fangirl of Quaraun & BoomFuzzy and take every opportunity to gush love for them.

Yep, another update:

On August 3, 2023, ChatGPT 3.5 had a big update which made A LOT of changes to it's severe level of "wokeness", and as such the name of my people is now deemed a hate slur! Here is my response:

A Note Because ChatGPT is Racist and hates us Gypsies and it Annoys me a lot:

NOTE: I am NOT a Romani. I am a Gypsy. Romani are NOT Gypsies. Gypsies are NOT Romani. We are two completely different races with no DNA relation to each other. Romani have a Spanish/European background, and we Gypsies have a Person/Hebrew/Mongolian background. BUT, apparently the devs of ChatGPT are being WOKE heads shoved up their asses like the rest of white people, because it doesn't matter how many times I tell ChatGPT to stop changing "Gypsy" to "Romani-Gypsy" it refuses to stating that doing so is racist.

No. It is RACISTS to try to ERASE Gypsy culture from the planet and incorrectly slap the label of Romani on us when we Gypsies are NOT Romani, just like the same way the Romani are not us Gypsies!

ARGH!

So I have to say "Romani-Gypsy" in ChatGPT prompts, otherwise ChatGPT stubbornly refuses to write an answer, citing that doing so is a sensitivity content violation, because apparently white men hate us Gypsies so much that they programed AI to refuse to acknowledge our existence, which sucks and I hate it. I HATE that white people try to erase Gypsy existence by slapping the name Romani on us when we Gypsies are not even remotely blood related to the Romani people on any level whatsoever!

Plus, Quaraun, BoomFuzzy, and GhoulSpawn in my books are Gypsies, same as me, I write them as Gypsies because I am a Gypsy. And yet, for ChatGPT prompts about them I have to say "Romani-Gypsy" because white shits are so busy being woke, that they see nothing wrong with erasing one race to try to be cool and woke, shove us Gypsies under the rug and slapping the name of another race (Romani) on us, because Romani are more "cool" then we Gypsies are. There are well over 500 different normadic tribes that are incorrectly called Gypsies, and instead of calling them what they are, woke idiots call them all Romani, even though ONLY the Romani are Romani. We Gypsies are not Romani. The 500 other races are not Romani, nor are they Gypsies.

Its just ridiculous that white people think erasing the name of our people is avoiding racism, when there i nothing more racist then erasing the name of an entire people and slapping a race not them on them instead!

Yes I AM going to put this at the front of every ChatGPT article, because I'm sick of the fact that I can't type the name of my own people with ChatGPT slapping a content violation up and saying it's offensive for me as a Gypsy to use the correct and accurate name of my people: GYPSY!

Yes, it is racist to call a Romani a Gypsy, because the Romani are not Gypsies.

Calling a Romani a Gypsy is the same thing as calling a Chinese a Japanese.

Just as Chinese are not Japanese, so too are Gypsies not Romani. Stop calling us Romani! Stop saying our name is racist when it's used correctly for us. Our name is only racist when you call a non-Gypsy a Gypsy.

We Gypsies are NOT Romani!

Stop calling us Gypsies Romani!

The Romani are Romani. We Gypsies are NOT Romani! And its not racist to call us by the actual name of our race!

Additional note: Yes, I know, ANOTHER one, LOL!

In addition to the "Custom Instructions" (above)... in addition to the custom instructions, on my writing prompt pages, because I wanted ChatGPT to give me prompts at were specific to the Quaraun books, as I am planning to write some short stories for the Christmas season this year, I have there for, started a new chat thread and started it with this prompt, which effects all prompts ChatGPT spits out.

Well, this page you are reading now is not a writing prompt page, HOWEVER, as we are giving you an intro t0 Quaraun and crew, here is the command I give ChatGPT so that it knows how to yip yap accurately about Quaraun:

(Quaraun, BoomFuzzy, and GhoulSpawn are ALL wizards. They are all three mages. They live together in a house made out of gingerbread, when they are living in the Forest of No Return. They live together in a pink silk tent that Quaraun made, when they are traveling on Quaraun's silk merchant trade route. They live together in a lighthouse called Black Tower when they are living on the cliffs of Noodle Beach in Merman Cove.

Quaraun is a silk merchant and silk weaver in addition to being a mage. Quaraun IS the Elf in these prompts.

Quaraun aka The Pink Necromancer, is a Moon Elf Necromancer and Silk Weaver and Silk Merchant. Quaraun is transgender.

Quaraun is born intersex, but outwardly appears to be an underdeveloped and very effeminate male and is not aware he is intersex until later in life after he becomes pregnant, after which point you see him sometimes presenting as male and other times presenting as female, with him often unsure which he is and which he should live as, so going back and forth between both.

Quaraun IS the Elf in these, but he is the ONLY Elf, because Quaraun is the last Elf left alive after the comet strike decimated the planet and caused the new ice age. Quaraun is the ONLY Elf left alive, that is what LAST ELF means. There are no other Elves. Quaraun is a Moon Elf. Quaraun is the last pure blooded Elf. Once in a while a half-Elf is found, but there are no other Elves. Quaraun always wears pink silk dresses. BoomFuzzy always wears black and purple. GhoulSpawn always wears green and gold. GhoulSpawn has ram horns and cloven hooves.

Quaraun is described as having a blend of Jellyfish, Frog, and Rabbit features. Quaraun's hair is actually many fine jellyfish tentacles. His "hair" strands act like thousands of additional arms and hand, with him using them instead of his hands to do things, move items, and grasp things (this is how he is able to operate twelve silk weaving looms at the same time, as he does not use his hands while weaving, instead using his hair.) Quaraun's hair grows longer or shorter at will, reducing to around six feet long when hiking, and growing to over twelve feet long when weaving, sleeping, or attacking and enemy. The "hair" strands are venomous, and stinging like a Portuguese Man o' War JellyFish, and he uses them to grab enemies and fling them away from him, or strangle them, or sting them to death. His hair, eyes, and skin are bioluminescent (meaning he glows in the dark). Quaraun's skin has a smooth frog-like sheen and texture. Quaraun has blue frog like webbing between his fingers and toes, and thin goldfish like viel fins on his arms and legs, that look like rough wrinkles when dry, but fan out around him for several feet when he is underwater.

Quaraun is semi-amphibious. He has foot long semi-rabbit-like ears that have full maneuverability, and usually are hung low, down his back, hidden under his hair, but perk up high, straight over his head when he is alerts, frightened, or listening. Quaraun can hear EVERYTHING going on in every room around him, and for other buildings down the road. His hearing is exceptional, due to his sensitive rabbit-like ears, and he can hear small sounds and hushed whispers from several miles away. Like a rabbit, Quaraun bounds or hops around, when he walks, if he walks, which he often doesn't. Usually he "hovers" with his feet several inches off the ground, instead using his "hair" like legs to walk, with his hair supporting him off the ground. Quaraun's personality is very feral, very animal-like, far more jellyfish personality then humanoid, with him having almost zero ability to blend in with humans, due his personality being so starkly not human at all. Quaraun's actions and movements are often described as "rabbit-like" with him constantly being nervous and twitching and always being quick to hop away at the slightest sound.

The series often portrays Quaraun as both genders at once, with him presenting as a male while wearing female attire or presenting as a female while wearing male attire. Regardless he always wears pink. Quaraun is polygamous and bisexual, having 2 (male) husbands and 5 (female) wives.

Though he was born in Quebec, Quaraun was raised in Iran/Persia and identifies as a Persian Gypsy.

Quaraun's husband BoomFuzzy is a shape-shifting Phooka whose primary form is a Kelpie-like Unicorn. BoomFuzzy is black and Asian. His father was black. His mother was Asian. Because he grew up in Scotland, BoomFuzzy speaks Scottish, has a thick Scottish accent, and identifies as a Scottish Gypsy.

BoomFuzzy IS the Unicorn in these prompts. BoomFuzzy IS the Faerie in these prompts. Quaraun is a Moon Elf. Quaraun is a necromancer, wish granter, and psion. BoomFuzzy is a Faerie trickster and illusionist. BoomFuzzy is a Unicorn.

BoomFuzzy has three forms: that of a horse (sometimes with a horn, sometimes with wings, sometimes with both, sometimes with neither), a bird of prey that resembles a black eagle, and a humanoid form which retains elements of both horse and bird, with him having a long tail and mane both of which he braids/dreads/and dyes purple, and eagle talons on his fingers and toes. He also has pointed fuzzy, horse-like ears. BoomFuzzy is the only one of the three capable of fully transforming into his animal form, but he is also the one of the three who most acts like a human, and is best able to interact with humans. BoomFuzzy is able to pass himself off as a human quite well, and is the best f the trio at interacting with the humans they encounter.

BoomFuzzy the Unicorn is a Phooka, a type of Unseelie Court Dark Fae, who takes the form of a Faerie Horse, sometimes a Unicorn, other times a Kelpie, sometimes a Nuckelavee, other times a Pegasus. BoomFuzzy is also a master chef, cake bakr, and candy maker. BoomFuzy runs a Noodle Soup Food Truck, a Cake Shop, and a Candy Factory.

BoomFuzzy is also a Frost Lich. BoomFuzzy is the Lich King of Fire Mountain. Quaraun is the Necromancer who created BooomFuzzy's Lich form. Quaraun is the necromancer who controls what the Lich King does.

Quaraun & BoomFuzzy's shared lover GhoulSpawn is a Sheep-Demon from Earth's 2525 far future, after Earth has been burnt up and turned into a Hell Dimension. The tallest of the trio, at full height GhoulSpawn stands 6'2", but due to his dititagrat legs, he haunches over, rarely standing up straight, and appears much shorter then he is.GhoulSpawn is not married to either Quaraun or BoomFuzzy, though the 3 of them live together as though they were married, he comes and goes from the relationship and has frequent affairs with other characters in between.

GhoulSpawn in the most "Furry" of the trio and while has some Human features, including walking upright, human hands, and a somewhat human face, he is arguably more sheep than man, with most of his body covered in long ivory Costwold wool (that shimmers with gold tinsel-like glitter and is dubbed "Golden Fleece"), cloven hooves instead of feet, digitigrade legs, long floppy lamb ears, glowing yellow pleco-fish eyes, and 3 sets of horns (one a set of round big horn ram horns, one small prong horn set, and one pair of long spiraling demonic-looking Jacoben type). GhoulSpawn displays a lot of sheep personality, with him being largely quiet, timid, sheepish, docile, and displaying a very "blindly follow the leader" beta personality. Though he can become headstrong and domineering, and at times be hyper prone to but heads with people (literally, slamming into them with his ram horns) if he doesn't get his way.

GhoulSpawn is a pyromancer. GhoulSpawn is a demon. GhoulSpawn IS the friendly demon in these prompts.

All three of them classify as Furries.

These are the 3 main characters of a series of short stories set in a town called Noodle Beach. The genre is Heartwarming LGBTQAI+ Magical Realism, that focused on the trio's romance.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER:

This page contains sections written by an LLM AI, specifically OpenAI's ChatGPT 3.5

The sections written by AI are noted and separated with a orange/pink stripe boarder around them.

Sections written by AI has not been fact checked and may contain inaccuracies. They are included for entertainment purposes only. The goal here is to show you what AIs like ChatGPT are capable of doing and as such the AI sections are directly copy/pasted into this page without any edits, changes, or fact checking done, so that you can see what AI output looks like.

The goal of this page is to show you how to write long, detailed command prompts that will get ChatGPT to output less generic and more useful content for you. Please remember, when using AI for your own content that AI is a random generator that guesses what word should logically come next and is NOT actually giving you correct answers to your questions as it has no ability to comprehend word meanings; and as such LLM AIs have a very high rate of fact inaccuracies, often outputting incorrect and inaccurate information at a rate as high as 64% to 73% in 8 times out of every 10 answers, which has been proven by numerous studies.

As of July 2023, there are currently more then 300 LLM AI apps and programs available with varying degrees of outputting informational accuray. As of July 2023, MOST of those has an accuracy rate of only 2% to 3%.

I choose to use ChatGPT for this article, because it has the highest rate of NOT giving inaccurate information, of any AI language model currently available, however it's inaccuracy rate is still higher then 50% inaccurate output more then 50% of the time, HOWEVER, as the June 2023 Stanford and Berkeley studies have shown, ChatGPT is only fully accurate 2.4% of the time, and this 2.4% is the MOST accurate AI rate out there as of July 2023.

The fact that ChatGPT is only 100% accurate 2.4% of the time and it is the MOST accurate of ANY of the AIs currently available, shows how very alarmingly INACCURATE any output from AI is and why you SHOULD NOT be using it for research or anything requiring factual information. Please keep this in mind when using AI programs in your own writing.

If you choose to use LLM AI's such as ChatGPT for your content, please remember that t is NOT a research program, it is NOT a search engine, and 88 times out of 10 it is going to give you as much as 75% inaccurate information. DO NOT use LLM AIs to create your content, unless you plan on doing huge amounts of fact checking and actual research to ensure that the content you publish is accurate.

What Is This Site?

I'm an author. This is an author home page. It's about me, my life, my books, my hobbies, my home town, and anything else that applies to me and my life.

Since starting my writing career in 1978, I have written 130+ novels, 2,000+ short stories, 6,000+ non-fiction articles (ALL are found on this site), a few dozen stage plays, 12,000+ blog posts, and a few comic book scripts for Disney's Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck (I only worked for Disney one year (in 2005) and only wrote a few stories for their Danish comic books).

NOTE: I ONLY write the Quaraun series (aka The Twighlight Manor series aka The Adventures of Quaraun the Insane). In recent years there has been an issue with impersonators trying to pass books off as written by me, notably several non-fiction and Erotica books. I write neither nonfiction nor Erotica.

ALL of my books and their cover arts are listed on my website here. Beware of any books you find claiming to be me. If the books are NOT listed here on my website, they are NOT my books.

In fiction works, I specialize in Weird/Bizarro Tales set in 40th century CyberPunk-Quasi Medieval, Cozy Dark Fantasy and Science Fiction worlds featuring an intersex Elf and his Faerie husband main characters.  I DO NOT WRITE ANY OTHER SERIES - THIS SERIES IS THE ONLY ONE I WRITE.

Non-fiction (found ONLY here on my site) is daily updates of events in my life, and how-tos on how I write my novels.

I DO NOT write Erotica.

I DO NOT write books with HUMAN characters.

The Erotica books and books with Human characters, that you are finding, are written by scammers trying to impersonate me.

There is an ongoing FBI investigation into this matter. If you find any such books, please report them to FBI Agengt Andy Drewer @207–774–9322

The FBI believes the people behind the impersonation accounts showing up, are relatives of the woman who murdered my son.
